One of my best friends grew up in Italy, but developed a passing interest in the NFL during the time she lived here. She returned to Italy several years ago and is now married. She finally got her husband to watch an broadcast of a playoff game on Saturday. So I wrote and asked him what he thought of it.
His reply: "Are all American football broadcasts sponored by trucks and shitty beer?"

And your intended point, is .. ?

I know you're a Leftie, Gabby. But why stoop to such a petty attempt to disparage pro-American pastimes ?

For myself, you can of course regard me, too, as 'foreign'. But I have neither the wish nor the smallest desire to launch any form of attack on American sports, or any American leisure pursuit. WHY WOULD I ?

So why do you ?

The liberals attack manly things like , hunting, fighting , sports, guns, racing, defending against enemies etc..
They go in for pansy-ass things like gay studies, gay marriage, perverted rights and protecting scum
from justice, giving billions to buy black votes etc..

You know, embracing corruption in any form it takes.... that's the liberal creed..

Sir Drummond. Whenever gabby delivers another of her useless threads here, like this one. She is merely at a loss for words when she finds another need to STIR THE POT and cause trouble.

Problem is, for gabby. All of her pots are full of (crap)...the nicest form I could use. But like this http://icansayit.com/images/dung.jpg.

Direct from the gabby kitchen.

Where did you get the idea that I was making a "petty attempt to disparage pro-American pastimes?"
The response was obviously a joke. An Italian guy watches an American football game for the first time and the only thing he understands is the commercials.
Sports broadcasts cater primarily to a male audience. Which is why there are a lot of commercials for trucks and beer. Europeans generally love American trucks. And laugh at weak American beer.
I think some of you read too much into what I post.

Ideology has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of "blue blood" Republicans with the same mentality.

Point perhaps taken - since you've taken it a step further, with ...

Whether or not you intended a joke, it was one which disparaged something identifiable as specifically American .. this done on an internationally-viewable forum, to an international audience.

Why, Gabby, would you do that ? [Clue - you're a Left winger ..].

So, OK. Why not come up with a joke that DEFENDS America to the wider world ?

Would "blue blood" Republicans with the same mentality actually HAVE a mentality that'd happily see something pro-American, something identifiable as American in character, disparaged to the world as a whole ?

My impression of Americans, generally (.. well, Lefties excepted, of course), is that they have a great capacity for pride in, and belief in, America as a national entity standing for something truly noble in the world. In fact, I greatly envy the American spirit in that regard. I could wish that the British came within a light year of having that same spirit.

Sad, yes.

DISGUSTING, also a firm YES.

It's a part of why I want Socialism wiped from the face of the earth ... as discredited as 'National Socialism' now is, following Hitler's defeat.

No gabby. We could never read too much into what you intentionally post here. You are merely using the typical, liberal, democrat, progressive trick of pretending to apologize for something you REALLY never intended to apologize for, and it's always after you intentionally say, or do something to hide your real feelings by making excuses that are actually Lies...just like Obama, and almost every Democrat politician who does the same thing.

Yeah, most are. Bud Lite is shitty beer and 5000 lb. trucks just aren't suited to Italian roads.:laugh2:

Maybe I just can't relate being a Chess-playing teetotaler.
