When the small plane crashed into the woods, 7-year-old Sailor Gutzler called out to her family. No one responded. She thought they might be knocked out, or possibly dead. Either way, police said, she knew she needed to get help. So, bleeding and alone, Sailor, dressed in a short-sleeve shirt, shorts and one sock, walked about a mile in near-freezing temperatures through thick briar patches and woods before she found Larry Wilkins' home. She knocked on the door, and he answered to find a thin, black-haired girl, whimpering and trembling.
"She literally fell out of the sky into a dark hole and didn't have anybody but her own will to live and get help for her family," Kentucky Police Lt. Brent White said. "Absolutely amazing." Wilkins said the girl had a "bloody nose, bloody arms, bloody legs, one sock, no shoes, crying." "She told me that her mom and dad were dead, and she had been in a plane crash, and the plane was upside down," Wilkins said.
...Wilkins said he brought the girl inside, got a washcloth and "washed her little face off and her legs." "Brave little girl, outstanding little girl," he said. "I feel real bad for her."

You know, it would be simple delightful if, when you posted an article, you also included some sort of relevant, original material of your own. You know, like what's your opinion?

A teenage girl who survived a small-plane crash in the craggy, thickly forested mountains of north-central Washington state emerged from the wilderness after hiking "for a couple of days" and was picked up by a motorist who drove her to safety, authorities said Monday. ...The teen has no life-threatening injuries but is dehydrated and suffering from a type of treatable muscle tissue breakdown caused by vigorous exercise without food or water...

From The Associated Press 15 July 2015:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A teenager who survived a small plane crash, then managed to find her way off a rugged Washington state mountainside finally made it home to Bellingham, just as word came that searchers had located wreckage in the area where she emerged from the woods. ...Bruised by the impact, singed by the fire that accompanied the crash, fearing an explosion and knowing she couldn't help the other victims, the girl did what she could: She headed down the steep slope, following a creek to a river. She spent a night on a sand bar, where she felt safer. She drank small amounts of the flowing water but worried she might get sick if she drank more.
She followed the river to a trail, and the trail to a highway. Two men driving by stopped and picked her up Monday afternoon, bringing her — about two full days after the crash — to the safety of a general store in tiny Mazama, near the east entrance of North Cascades National Park.

Smart chica. One of things I do is guide for groups and teach survival techniques. One thing I say is rivers are good if lost. They lifeline and can lead to help. With river you have water and food. Rivers also have civilization nearby like towns, roads, boaters, kayakers, fishermen. If lost and find river always stay near it.

Speaking historically, it's always been so. Thanks!

The teenager who survived a small plane crash in Washington's Cascade Mountains says she burned herself trying to pull her step-grandparents from the burning wreckage. ...Veatch said after the crash her step-grandparents, Leland and Sharon Bowman, were trapped. She said she couldn't get to Sharon Bowman but burned her hand trying to free Leland.
Before she fled she says she told the Bowmans that "I loved them and that it would be OK."
