Well this oughta piss off Revelarts. It doesn't mean a damn thing at the end of the day, but shows just like online, the country is torn over this issue.
-------
Washington (AFP) - About half of Americans believe that the CIA was justified in its harsh interrogation methods of "war on terror" detainees, a poll found Monday, days after a damning US report revealed harrowing details of torture.
The US Senate report released last week said the Central Intelligence Agency's interrogation of Al-Qaeda suspects, including beatings, rectal rehydration and sleep deprivation, was far more brutal than acknowledged and did not produce useful intelligence.
The findings triggered international condemnation and calls for those involved to face justice.
But 51 percent of people in the United States believe the CIA's methods were justified (29 percent said not) and 56 percent said the intelligence gathered from those methods prevented terrorist attacks, a Pew Research Center survey found.
There was more doubt, however, about the decision to release the Senate report, with 42 percent saying it was the right move against 43 percent who said it was not. Fifteen percent did not know.
The national survey was conducted Thursday to Sunday among 1,001 adults.

Jim. At least we know, we aren't alone if there are 1,001 other adults who feel as we do.
No need to worry about rev. Sometimes, no matter how hard, or consistent you try to be. You can't change minds that do not want to be changed.

I don't see anyone who really tried with anything like strong evidence or reason that it's needed, effective or much less MORAL.
But here's something for you all to consider maybe.

From his signing statement ratifying the UN Convention on Torture from 1984:
"The United States participated actively and effectively in thenegotiation of the Convention . It marks a significant step in thedevelopment during this century of international measures againsttorture and other inhuman treatment or punishment. Ratification of theConvention by the United States will clearly express United Statesopposition to torture, an abhorrent practice unfortunately stillprevalent in the world today.
The core provisions of the Convention establish a regime for international cooperation in the criminal prosecution of torturers relying on so-called 'universal jurisdiction.' Each State Party is required either to prosecute torturers who are found in its territory or to extradite them to other countries for prosecution."
My italic (bold). Reagan was admant about prosecuting torture, but also prosecuting inhuman treatment that some might claim was not full-on torture.
what's happened to conservatism in America?

I've explained this before. No doubt I'll find myself doing so again in the future. Please pay attention:
Margaret Thatcher's published views on this PREDATE 9/11 and all of the Islamic terrorism we've know of since that time.
How would you like me to insist that our understanding of the Universe must be founded on scientific knowledge of it, which predated the beginning of this century ? How reasonable would that be ??
Our witnessing of the ever-more disgusting levels of terrorist subhumanities is ongoing. It is a far from totally static reality ... who can say how far they'll go in their future attacks, what new depths they'll reach ? Views and countering measures need to evolve to meet the emerging realities in play. From the days of the heyday of the IRA (... FROM WHICH LADY THATCHER'S VIEWS WERE BORN, AND CONTINUE TO REPRESENT) .. to the watershed extremes witnessed by the world, of 9/11 .. to the THOUSANDS of acts of barbaric butchery the world has seen since.

:blah:
:blah: You apparently think that the Iron Lady's principles are a little rusty. That's not very Thatcherite of you. tsk tsk tsk
Your view is that Mags is the end-all, be-all and no variation from what she did and believe and accomplished is allowed lest you are a leftie. Now I was going to just delete the remaining meanderings of your post but it occurs to me that it will be useful in the future to point out how waffly you are on the when you think her views aren't in line with your disgusting views. No, you don't get to decide what she would believe at this point and still get to claim some mantle as "Proudly Thatcherite." You say you are but you drop what that moniker means when you find you need some justification for her words that don't match yours.
