The local NAACP wants to see documents from the grand jury that decided not to indict two Cleveland police officers in the fatal shooting of Tamir Rice, a 12-year-old black boy who had a pellet gun. Members of the Cleveland NAACP are seeking transcripts of witness testimony before the grand jury that heard evidence in the 2014 shooting. WJW-TV (http://bit.ly/1VI1mef ) reports the group voted Tuesday night to push for the documents' release.
Members say they want to see and analyze everything that grand jurors heard in the case.

Can hardly blame them for that, considering the fact that grand juries, over the years, are known to be manipulated by prosecutors and witnesses, a most egregious example being the case of William Kilpatrick.
Senior United States District Judge Fred M. Winner, of the Tenth Circuit in Denver Colorado, noted, in his opinion in the case: "This case was started with a multiple count, multiple defendant indictment returned after an investigation spanning the lives of two grand juries. Judge Kane dismissed all except one count, which left a one defendant charge of obstruction of justice case to try. It was prosecuted by three attorneys employed by the Tax Division of the Department of Justice in Washington. The single remaining count of the indictment had absolutely nothing to do with tax law, and the trial could have been handled competently and with aplomb by any assistant United States Attorney living in Denver, but the administrative decision of the Department of Justice was to send three lawyers from the Tax Division to try an obstruction of justice case, a prosecution unrelated to their professed area of expertise. I mention this fact for one very important reason. ...To fully cover all of the headaches of this case would require a volume, and I don't plan to write that book for reasons which will appear presently."
Although the case started with the "filing of a twenty-seven count indictment charging seven individuals and the Bank of Nova Scotia with conspiracy, mail fraud and tax fraud, Judge Kane had dismissed twenty-six of the counts for "failure to charge a crime and as improperly pleaded." Judge Winner stated that "there are so many things to cover that this opinion won't be short."
"To accept the testimony of government witnesses at full value would require that I effectively decide that quite a few reputable lawyers and citizens of this community and other communities are guilty of perjury..."
Judge Winner noted that with the foregoing statement in the record, he "set the stage for some of the bizarre happenings in this case". He quoted from a 1935 case before the United States Supreme Court, noting that the obligation of the United States Attorney "in a criminal prosecution is not that it shall win a case, but that justice shall be done." "...while he may strike hard blows, he is not at liberty to strike foul ones. It is as much his duty to refrain from improper methods calculated to produce a wrongful conviction as it is to use every legitimate means to bring about a just one." He stated also that "Perhaps the thing which disappoints me the most is the forgetfulness of the grand jury itself in going along with having two IRS agents in charge of the IRS investigation sworn as 'agents of the grand jury'." He stated: "I orally, and on the record, stressed that a grand jury has a duty to protect the innocent and I emphasized that a grand jury is an independent body, separate and apart from investigative agencies and that grand juries are not an arm of the prosecution but instead, they have a duty to examine the government's case carefully. I didn't tell them that they couldn't appoint IRS agents as their own "agents", because it never occurred to me that there could be such a blurring of the "investigative agency", "prosecuting attorney" and "grand juror" functions. However, I did supply each grand juror with a copy of the recommended instructions to grand jurors authored under the auspices of the Judicial Center, and I urged each grand juror to read the instructions frequently to be sure that they adequately performed their duties.
The case of U.S. v Kilpatrick was reviewed on the news program 60 MINUTES. Mike Wallace reported: "When Fred Winner, the other judge in this case, wrote his opinion that there was misconduct by the U.S. government, the Justice Department tried to suppress what he had written. But their strategy backfired, and the story ended up on page one all over the country, and the Justice Department reversed itself and apologized for trying to suppress it. But after the Justice Department apologized for trying to suppress the opinion, the three Justice Department attorneys, Blondin, Scharf and Snyder, about whom Judge Fred Winner had written, went to an outside counsel to try to keep the judge's opinion from being published."

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is on the defensive again, dealing with the fallout from a judge's opinion accusing a top city lawyer of hiding evidence in another case involving a fatal police shooting. ...In Pinex's case, the officers who stopped his car testified that they did so because it matched a car involved in a shooting they had heard about over their police radio. They said they shot Pinex after he refused their orders and put his car in reverse.
But records later emerged showing that the officers weren't listening to the channel broadcasting the radio traffic about the car involved in the earlier shooting. In his ruling Monday in a lawsuit brought by Pinex's relatives, U.S. District Judge Edmond Chang said a city attorney "intentionally concealed" that evidence.

They could and should be able to review and investigate all they can. But at the end of the day, the right decision was made. A tragedy took place because a kid refused to listen to others, and eventually decided to bring a gun to the park and wave it around. There's a reason toy guns are purposely made to look like toys anymore, and have painted tips. If this is altered, and one knows about it, and refuses to leave it be, and then waves it around in a park - something bad very well could happen. Nothing should change this decision. No gun should ever be in a park, unless it is extremely clearly painted and 100% obvious that it's a toy.

You are assuming the officers saw a gun before he was shot...
Rice's family was "disappointed" by today's outcome but not "surprised," his family's attorneys said. The attorneys said they are renewing their request for the Department of Justice to "step in to conduct a real investigation." "As the video shows, Officer Loehmann shot my son in less than a second," his family said in a statement. "All I wanted was someone to be held accountable. But this entire process was a charade." Rice's legal team insisted that Tamir's hands were in his pockets when he was shot.
"The toy was not out when the officers arrived. Watch the video," said Subodh Chandra. "A Ph.D in biomechanics said Tamir's hands were in his pocket. The prosecutor is covering up his own mishandling of the process."

A Maryland police officer has been convicted of assault after being caught on camera pointing a gun at a man’s head. Prince George's County Police Officer Jenchesky Santiago was found guilty of inappropriate use of his service weapon as he arrested William Cunningham outside his home. ...Officer Santiago, a two-year veteran of the force, was convicted of first and second degree assault as well as two other lesser charges. He could now face 45 years in prison.
...Cunningham said he was in a vehicle with his cousin and stopped outside of his home last May when the officer approached them claiming the two were illegally parked.
Cunningham stepped out of the vehicle to go to his home, when the situation with Santiago escalated.
“Get back over there, get back in the car,” Santiago shouts at Cunningham as he pushes him away from his house in Bowie.
When Cunningham protests, “You put a gun to my head!” Santiago yells backs, “You're right.”
Santiago continues to push Cunningham towards the car, before pointing the gun directly at his forehead.
Cunningham then stares down the barrel of a gun in a tense standoff, before Santiago challenges him.
”I dare you to f-----g fight me, son,” he says in the video.

The Los Angeles police chief has recommended criminal charges against an officer who shot and killed an unarmed homeless man. The decision came after investigators concluded that Brendon Glenn was on his stomach trying to push himself up on May 5 when Officer Clifford Proctor shot the 29-year-old New York native in the back... Investigators also found that Glenn wasn't trying to take a gun from Proctor or his partner when he was shot. Proctor's partner told investigators that he didn't know why the officer opened fire, Jenal said.
"In this case, the chief is describing that in his mind, the suspect was down, trying to push himself up, and the evidence gathered — witness statements and video — shows that the officer's statement that the suspect was going for a gun is not substantiated...
"The chief should stay out of it, for or against," said Craig Lally, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League. "I don't think any chief of police in any city should say one way or another to prosecute or not to prosecute," he said. "Let (District Attorney) Jackie Lacey determine if there's enough evidence for a filing."

The University of Cincinnati has agreed to pay $4.85 million to the family of an unarmed black man who was shot to death in July by one of its police officers, a settlement that also requires the college to provide an undergraduate education to his 12 children, create a memorial to him on campus and include his family in discussions on police reform.
The family of Samuel DuBose, who was killed by a white officer during a routine traffic stop in what a prosecutor called a “senseless, asinine shooting,” reached the settlement after two days of mediation, the university said Monday in announcing the deal. It estimated the total cost to the university, which is publicly funded, to be $5.3 million.

From The Cleveland Scene 20 January 2016:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The grand jury that opted not to indict Cleveland police officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback in the shooting death of Tamir Rice never actually took a vote on the matter, according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office. ...At the conclusion of a typical grand jury hearing, there are two possible outcomes achieved via vote: a "true bill," which results in criminal charges and a case number in the court system, or a "no bill," which is a decision not to bring charges. A "no-bill notification" is signed and stamped and kept on record at the county clerk's office.
...After learning and confirming on Jan. 15 that there was no "no-bill notification" on file at the county clerk's office for the Tamir Rice grand jury proceedings, Scene formally requested the document officially showing the decision, however it was reached, and wherever said document might be. We were told that it didn't exist. Employees at both the clerk's and prosecutor's offices were unable to explain the lack of paperwork.
...Reached Tuesday, Subodh Chandra, the local attorney for the Rice family, said that the whole process has been "irregular.” He said he and his team had asked the county if the grand jury members were led through each possible charge for a vote or whether there was one overarching vote on all charges, but never received an answer. When informed no vote of any kind took place, Chandra said: "If it is true that the prosecutor didn't even call for an up or down vote on potential criminal charges, including aggravated murder, then it is truly the ultimate insult to the Rice family,” Chandra said, “that the prosecutor didn't even think it mattered to bring the grand jury proceedings to their proper conclusion."

I wonder how many pages we would be up to if we reversed things, and posted stories about folks who go after the police, try to shoot the police or any other type of assault? Or how many pages would we be up to if we reported just the shootings/stabbings/murders of folks in Chicago alone? Those poor forgotten folks. No agenda behind it, not much reason to pay attention and report on it I suppose. Maybe I'm wrong, but what I do know is that it's mainly ignored, the folks that are the loudest about the police and such, very rarely if ever speak out on such places. where the numbers of innocent folks being killed is MUCH MUCH higher.

You mean regular criminals?
Not criminals paid by state, federal and local gov'ts to protect and serve the people. on the Gov't clock crimes often covered up or considered "justified".
Crimes, when mentioned, that get some upset because it paints A job we like to imagine as always heroic as often being just human beings in another gov't agency that needs to be watched so the "bad apples" don't take over.
Jim I see this thread as a wake up call, to that kind of crime.
Regular criminals are put in jail everyday by decent cops. no one is defending criminal activity.
But when someone puts on a badge and commits crimes it's a different level of problem. And that criminal activity is often defended or ignored.
That's part of what's being what's being pointed out here.

A police officer whose account of a physical altercation with a motorist during a traffic stop was contradicted by a dashcam video showing the motorist with his hands raised was sentenced on Friday to five years in prison.
Bloomfield Officer Orlando Trinidad and a fellow officer were found guilty in November of official misconduct, falsifying public records and other offenses. Officer Sean Courter's Friday sentencing was postponed.
Trinidad will be ineligible for parole during the five-year sentence.
Prosecutors contended Courter followed motorist Marcus Jeter onto the Garden State Parkway in June 2012 after Jeter voluntarily left his home following a verbal dispute with his girlfriend. They said Jeter refused to get out of his car when Courter stopped him, and Courter and Trinidad, who struck the front of Jeter's car when he arrived, broke one of the car's windows and dragged Jeter out.
Courter, of Englishtown, and Trinidad, of Bloomfield, claimed in police reports that Jeter tried to grab Courter's gun and struck Trinidad.

Citizens assaulting or shooting police. 86 pages long.
Blacks shooting people in Chicago alone. another 187 pages per month
Yes, it's a damn good idea to ensure our public officers are kept in check, or fired, or brought up on charges depending on the situation. But hopefully someday down the road, some of the louder voices in the nation will also start worrying about citizens, things in much larger numbers, the forgotten folks of the black lives matter movement. If folks were worried about the deaths of young black folks - they would do just that, worry about the deaths of young black folks. But not all deaths matter.

According to NBC News (http://www.nbcnews.com/video/surveillance-video-shows-cops-beating-man-during-arrest-610627651785), Derek Price, who was arrested on a drug warrant, put his hands in the air, appearing to surrender, and immediately dropped to the ground. As seen in the video, that did not stop five police officers from kicking and punching Price's head, neck and body while he was on the ground.
Body camera footage from one of the officers appears to tell a different story, as the officers are heard yelling at Price to "stop resisting," and tell him to "put his hands behind his back." At one point, the officer turns off the body camera.
Marion County Sheriff Chris Blair said all five officers were suspended without pay. Based on the actions of the five police officers, "they should never receive another dime from the Marion County tax payers," Blair said.
On Wednesday, former Deputy Jesse Turrell, who had been fired following the incident, was indicted on civil rights violations by the Department of Justice. The indictment alleges that Terrell assaulted Price, which resulted in bodily injury, by repeatedly striking, kneeing and kicking the victim in the head, neck and shoulder area.
If convicted, Terrell faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The remaining four police officers involved in the incident were named by the Oscala Star Banner (http://www.ocala.com/article/20140811/ARTICLES/140819950) as James Amidei, Adam Crawford, Trevor Fitzgerald and Cody Hoppel. All four have resigned.

There is a pattern here. EBT and welfare just ain't cutting it nowadays. I am beginning to think blacks do this just so they can get money from the taxpayers. Otherwise, why would it always be blacks who are getting beaten and shot? :)

Matthew Hickey, a Marietta, Ohio police officer, was planning to retire. He had a K9 partner, Ajax. "Ajax has lived with Hickey for the last three years and the retired officer considers the dog "a family member" in addition to the dog's role on the police force." Under Ohio law, the dog was "still fit for duty", and "is property of the city of Marietta." Mr. Hickey couldn't keep the dog. Then, "a GoFundMe page has raised over $50,000 in less than a week to go towards Hickey's purchase of Ajax" so that the dog can stay with Mr. Hickey.

If you ever testify in court, you might wish you could have been as sharp as this policeman.
He was being cross-examined by a defense attorney during a felony trial. The lawyer was trying to undermine the police officer's credibility ...
Q: 'Officer --- did you see my client fleeing the scene?'
A: 'No sir. But I subsequently observed a person matching the description of the offender, running several blocks away.'
Q: 'Officer, who provided this description?'
A: 'The officer who responded to the scene.'
Q: 'A fellow officer provided the description of this so-called offender. Do you trust your fellow officers?'
A: 'Yes, sir. With my life.'
Q: 'With your life? Let me ask you this then officer. Do you have a room where you change your clothes in preparation for your daily duties?'
A: 'Yes sir, we do!'
Q: 'And do you have a locker in the room?'
A: 'Yes, sir, I do.'
Q: 'And do you have a lock on your locker?'
A: 'Yes, sir.'
Q: 'Now, why is it, officer, if you trust your fellow officers with your life, you find it necessary to lock your locker in a room you share with these same officers?'
A: 'You see, sir, we share the building with the court complex, and sometimes lawyers have been known to walk through that room.'
The courtroom EXPLODED with laughter, and a prompt recess was called.

The families of [Timothy] Russell and [Malissa] Williams filed a lawsuit against the city of Cleveland, claiming they were liable for the wrongful deaths of the two. In November 2014, Cleveland paid $3 million to the two families, which was split evenly.
Out of the 137 shots, 47 found their targets. Looks like they spent some serious time at the shooting range.
Now the families can afford to buy cars that don't backfire. RIP.

Irate protesters have charged for years that police officers kill black people with impunity, but that anger yielded something new on Tuesday in the counties that include Chicago and Cleveland, where voters defeated the prosecutors they held partly responsible. In each place, one particular shooting in 2014, captured on video, galvanized attention, locally and nationally: the death in Chicago of Laquan McDonald, 17, and the killing in Cleveland of Tamir Rice, 12.
...In Democratic primaries on Tuesday, both veteran prosecutors were soundly defeated by lesser-known challengers. In each county, the campaign became a referendum on the incumbent, with some protesters stating plainly that they would vote for any viable alternative.
...Critics of law enforcement hope the results send a message to prosecutors...

In this city's troubled history of police misconduct, Eric Caine's case may be unrivaled: It took more than 25 years and $10 million to resolve. For decades, he maintained he didn't brutally kill an elderly couple. The police, he said, beat him into a false confession. Locked up at age 20, he was freed at 46, bewildered by a world he no longer recognized. Caine ultimately was declared innocent, sued the city and settled for $10 million. But victory brought little peace to his troubled mind.
...Caine is one of the more dramatic examples of huge police settlements that have tarnished the city in recent years. Among them: A one-time death row inmate brutally beaten by police: $6.1 million. An unarmed man fatally shot by an officer as he lay on the ground: $4.1 million. And last year, the family of Laquan McDonald, the black teenager shot 16 times by a white officer, received $5 million.
...In all, Chicago has paid a staggering sum — about $662 million — on police misconduct since 2004, including judgments, settlements and outside legal fees, according to city records. The payouts, for everything from petty harassment to police torture, have brought more financial misery to a city already drowning in billions of dollars of pension debt. The U.S. Justice Department's recent decision to investigate the Chicago police — fallout from the McDonald case — has helped focus new attention on this agonizing record of misconduct and the surprising lack of consequences. Few officers accused of wrongdoing have been disciplined in recent years.
..."police did reprehensible things" — including framing people, shooting them without justification and planting evidence — but he knows of no case where those officers were punished. "Not only was nobody disciplined, nobody was asked any questions," he says. "It was just back to work."
...Ronald Kitchen, who said he was beaten into confessing to several murders, spent 21 years in prison, 13 of them on death row while seven men were executed. "You keep thinking, 'Am I going to take this walk? Is that going to happen to me?'" he says. "It's not in the back of your mind - it's in the front." Kitchen, who was eventually exonerated, settled for $6.1 million from the city. "The money has been good ... but the pain is still there," he says.
..."You can give me money but you still can't get rid of this officer? It's not hate against the police department. It's hold accountable whoever commits the crimes."

this is the part that causes the trouble. . few expect the police to be perfect. But when police commit crime people want justice done. If it is Case closed great job.
But the fact that many police criminals just go back to work is what fuels the mistrust of the police. there may only be 5% to 25% of the police in a given city that are corrupt but the fact that the "GOOD" cops allow the bad ones to stay and cover for them make the whole system suspect. Creates mistrust for the whole group. so that when you're approached by a police officer you're not sure who you're talking to.
It's likely he's a great guy. A great guy that covers for or feels he can't to jack to stop Horrible crimes among his "brothers" but wants "civilians" to drive the speed limit and jump at his every command or else we're going to jail, and or be beaten or killed.
bad policing styles help few, bad cops help none.

The death of the 52-year-old Rainey, who lived in Sullivan and formerly worked as a deputy in Gasconade County in east-central Missouri, appears to be a suicide...

A Pennsylvania police officer lied about the reason behind a traffic stop, then smashed the motorist's cellphone and punched her in the face after pulling her over without sufficient cause, prosecutors said. ...The officer claimed in a police report that he pulled over Marcelina Cintron-Garcia, 30, for failing to use a turn signal. Investigators later reviewed surveillance video that showed her right front turn signal was on, according to a police affidavit.
...After the stop, an argument ensued, and Cintron-Garcia began recording the encounter with her cellphone. ...After the officer smashed the phone onto the sidewalk, she struck him with her left hand, and he punched her in the face and threw her down, court papers said. Her head struck a pipe, opening a gash that required three staples.
Prosecutors said the officer's false claim that she did not use a turn signal prompted another officer to wrongly charge her with a traffic violation. That charge, and other charges against Cintron-Garcia that included aggravated assault, were withdrawn after she filed a complaint and prosecutors launched an investigation, the Reading Eagle newspaper reported.

...sheriff’s deputy in Hunts County, Texas, is under investigation after being caught on video hitting a 38-year-old woman who loudly told him she was pregnant, the Dallas Observer reported. (http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2015/04/hunt_county_sheriff_will_invesitgate_an_internet_a llegation_after_officer_is_filmed_punching_pregnan .php)The footage shows Deanna Jo Robinson, an Air Force veteran, being restrained from behind by the unidentified officer and another deputy during a March 4 incident at her parents’ home, where she said sheriff’s officials forced their way in without a warrant to take her 18-month-old son on orders of Child Protective Services (CPS).
The video, taken from a surveillance camera inside the home, cuts out after the officer raises his hand to hit her again. Robinson, who said she was struck four or five times, can be heard saying several times that she is pregnant.
“I’m 38 weeks pregnant, and with my stomach again repeatedly pressed into that counter, and with my 18-month old son watching his mother be assaulted, and him screaming in fear,” she told WFAA-TV this week. Robinson spent six days in county jail after being arrested and charged with assault on a public servant, resisting arrest and interference with child custody. She said she took the boy with her to her parents’ house after getting into a shoving match with her husband several days earlier...

and i guess the bulk of the thread is addressed to those who are police LOVERS no matter what police do, right?
Seriously? Can we ONLY label people as Lovers or Haters of Police when talking about police issues? I have to say I think that's a piss poor way to look at it.
It's funny that NO one responded to any of the 3 or 4 post i made a while back about community policing WORKING. And the many cops giving speeches that they have RETHOUGHT the way they should be doing business in general. That the 'us vs them' mentality is NOT the best way to police.
They are not military and should not have a military posture, but a PUBLIC SERVICE posture. with VIOLENCE as a LAST resort.
A lot of what been posted in this thread is strait up police corruption small and large. But some of it has been about obviously POOR training . Where for example Cops find a person who's "unresponsive" to their commands and then go about to give what they consider a right and proper beat down. Only to discover the "PERPS" are DEAF, Handicapped, Mentally ill or handicapped, or even having a stroke or heart attack.
It's not "HATE" of police to says "THEY SHOULD BE TRAINED BETTER!". and say it strongly.
anyway... seems to me people should take the issues brought up here more seriously and not just make defensive claims when real IMPROVEMENT CAN be made.
I don't think anyone here thinks that police are PERFECT. So is it wrong to ask others to join in trying to make police even BETTER. And deal more JUSTLY with EVERYONE in all communities?
end rant #97 on this issues.

It's not about PRE-judging.
it's about about looking at the record and praising and encouraging the good behavior and good policies. And also seeing and admitting the bad policy and bad actors and improving, punishing and or removing them.
It's not about pretending ALL cops and police procedures are 99.9% good.

It pisses me off. I recognize there are bad cops just like bad citizens. I am not that one-way.
But got to wonder if ANY of these anti-cop critics ever asked for a ride-along to see what the
cops have to put up with. Many Police Departments encourage that, except Highway Patrols
and Sheriffs because their response area is so huge.
None would have the stones to go to a police academy, put on a badge, and put their life in
danger 24 hours a day. Cuddled up in the comfy bed every night is more appealing rather
than wonder if they will get home after a shift.

I had the option to become a Bexar County Sheriff when I retired. I said no thanks. Wasn't a lack of stones. If wanted to never be home I could have stayed in the Corps. And I think I'd have made a lousy cop. They're always on defense. I'm trained to be aggressive and move offensively.

the thing that's weird about it here is you say your all such tough guys but you can't seem to take much verbal criticism.

Frankly part of MY purpose here is to present police... as you say... as regular people not superHeroes that should never be questioned.
But people that have a high calling and need support as well as oversight. Because the are making life and death decisions. maybe an OUTSIDE eye can be of help from time to time. Is that possible?
If that's wrong in your eye's hey sorry no offensive but i ask you to read my positive post as well not just be mad at ME for posting cops that have killed or abused their post .

Got news for you, Rev, you have NO idea what taking verbal criticism is. Try doing it at the position of attention. And I don't know about you, but I don't go on political message boards to hold hands.
There's no fresh set of eyes when you haven't been there. You know what they call a fresh set of eyes in the Marines? Private among other things. Shut up, watch and learn and you might live. Nothing like having to make a decision in a second. There's no time to drop into your easy chair with a slide rule and figure out the probabilities.
And to be clear, I am no fan of cops. I've said that more than twice. Me n them didn't get along back in the 70s. However, they have a job to do and I understand the job. Elessar is quite correct though. You want to judge all for the actions of a few.
Remember Abu Ghraib? You know how much BS the vets and myself had to listen to over THAT crap? It was neverending. We ALL were responsible. The fact is the majority go about doing their jobs. I catch you pulling some illegal crap and you're going before a court martial. We don't tolerate that kind of crap.

Seriously of course, if I did in fact have such a thread, and I were to make a single post for each and every time a black person were killed in either place due to guns or whatever- that thread would be much longer than this one. And it's just 2 areas, compared to this one which is the entire nation. I still don't understand why many in the nation want to focus in singular subjects, and "lives" in general, and ignore those places.
Lives are lives. And I get that the police shootings and those shootings are 2 different things. But it's almost as if they really are ignored. One shooting can take up the news for a month straight and cause all kinds of issues from protests to riots. But you can have 25 people killed during that same period, from Detroit/Chicago, and maybe not even be aware of it.

By the laughter and joking someone might think you both don't have a real concern for all the death and harm done by civilians and even less by cops.
Or that you just want to use others deaths suffering as a debating point.

seems to me there's a clear distinction.
One is considered a strait up common criminal by ALL.
The other is a criminal working under the cover of a badge, paid, trained and given a weapon and authority by the local citizens. given social, legal and political cover to continue unless exposed thoroughly.
Seems like an EASY distinction to make.
Seems like a problem EVERYONE should be concerned about.

"even more" by cops? Surely you don't have a straight face? The killings done by gang bangers alone is more than police shootings. Then add in deaths by shooting that the offender is just not part of a gang. The amount of deaths per year, or in the past decade, just from those 2 places alone, is disgusting.
Others suffering and such. Hell, I've brought this up here, and elsewhere, endless times. And an "lol" in a thread about a point, is hardly laughing at the suffering of others.
And if talking about REAL concern and truth... Since there are SO MANY more deaths there than other places, and more deaths then police shootings - then where us the real concern for those folks? Why is it that the BLM group, for just one example, can get so involved and bring out so much concern, for one person. But where is that massive amount of concern when it's a black on black killing in these 2 places? Does it only matter if it's a white cop? Just a cop in general? I think we can both agree that ALL of the black lives matter. But a person shot by a cop gets unlimited concern. But a black on black shooting/death in Chicago or Detroit? And it comes off as if no one really cares at all.
WHERE is the productive input to help stem the endless deaths in these places? Where are the weekly marches looking for change? The mayor/governor and other leaders should be shitcanned if they aren't out there DAILY like so many others, looking for solutions. And if the next guy can't help fix things, then fire his ass too. But I don't see that happening either. I simply don't see a lot of effort being done, from the highest people in charge of those areas, all the way down to those who complain about the issue and can march or make their voices heard.
I know the difference between crooks, criminals, gang members killing as opposed to a cop entrusted to help civilians. I fully get that point. But outside of that point, get to a common denominator, LIVES, all lives should be equally important and valued. So yeah, 2 different types of deaths, 2 entirely different kinds of "complaints", about civilians and police officers . I DO get all of that. But at the end of the day, ALL lives should matter, whether a black kid shot by a cop in Texas, or a black kid shot by a gang member in Detroit. And yet we know the names of some that were shot, who later the facts showed that they were good shootings, and they are national names - and I can't think of just one name of someone who was killed similarly in Detroit or Chicago. It's as if it's 2 different worlds. Sadly, the world that the 2nd list comes from, they are like the forgotten bunch.

Simply untrue. I'll be one of the 1st to condemn the police if they fucked up. I'll be on of the 1st to offer sympathies and such. I always look at each one on a case by case basis. I can go back and prove this, but... Are you - again - implying that I'm racist, because of some perceived lack of concern towards people shot by police? I have the same amount of concern for all people shot wrongly, black or white or whatever the hell color they are.
Again - case by case basis, each event looked at singularly. If a legit shooting, I have zero sympathy. If the cop fucked up, I'm usually one of the first to admit as much (not the first to post it admittedly, but sometimes). I always have concern for folks killed wrongly by the police. Should I find a few and quote them for some sort of proof?
The concern should be for those 2 cities, and I simply don't see it.

There's no "lack of concern". But should there not be concern for the cops too? Look at Ferguson. This histrionic shit cost that cop his career and he was justified. Too late after they hanged him out to dry. What about HIM? HIS family?
No one's arguing bad cops aren't bad. The argument is making it look like ALL cops are bad. That's crap.
I'm sure most people on the board see me as very pro police. The majority of time I am defending them and their actions. Again, for me it's a case by case basis. It's not about being pro police or a police hater, but for me it's usually about the rule of law. I hold myself to a different standard though.
I would argue that if ANYONE on the board had a reason, or reasons to not like the police, that would be me!! Thing is though, 99% of the time I deserved it, well maybe like 90%. It started off by driving like an idiot, and when you do that you might get pulled over. Then I act like a jerk off when the cop comes back to my car holding a ticket. But who's fault was it? That time, right in front of him I crumpled up the ticket and tossed it over my shoulder into the back of the car, acting like a tough guy! LOL The cop was like "I don't care, do whatever you want, but you'll lose your license if you don't show up and/or pay the fine" or something like that.
I was "profiled" in the area I grew up. Often it was because I drove a very old nasty looking puke green colored van. This thing SCREAMED "drugs", or worse. Add in that I had REAL long hair back then. So pulled over a ton, and a lot of those times I would get searched.
Then more driving like an asshole, even after upgrading from the van! Funny how they still "abuse" you and ticket you for speeding, whether in a piece of shit, or in a new and small geeky car, and wearing a suit on the way to work.
Made it over 12 points in NJ and lost license. Had to attend some goofy class to get it restored and have 3 points taken off my records. Then repeated that process like a year later!! :thumb:
Then I got married, and smarter. Same as you say, I simply stayed away from them, as in being smarter, driving better and not breaking laws. Ok, I think it was only 1 more speeding ticket. :) But I've currently got 0 points and haven't had to really deal with the police because I am friends with a few. But funny how when I see a cop I still get really nervous as if I'm potentially about to go to jail! :)
More to the story than just speeding of course, I was a bad boy for a bit there, but nothing THAT bad. :420:
What the hell am I rambling on about here? I had to scroll back up to see what I'm replying to and what point I was trying to make. I don't think I made much sense here, did I? LOL and I swear, no, I am not stoned!! :laugh2:

Abbey it's fine. but it just seem that everyone comes to this thread to Condemn the victims or indigo and I.
Truth? If you'll believe me?
I was on "Who's online" and saw that Gunny was viewing this thread, and that's why I popped in here today. I wasn't looking to condemn anyone. Again, for me, it's a case by case basis, so you'll only see condemnation towards the guilty party from me.

Few seem very concerned about the the corrupt cops or bad system Or EVEN DISCUSSING the suggestions and examples of BETTER SYSTEMS.
but there's time to joke about dead people. and come up with and read alternate things to be concerned about INSTEAD of this.
I'm not saying your ..what you said.. or Jim . But i suspect if i made LOLs or jokes about dead cops or military some people heads would explode here.
but here the thing, i just Don't get all the hostility against people talking about REALLY BAD cops!
how many time do i have to say NOT ALL COPS ARE BAD!.
what about that is hard to get.
Most cops are GREAT.
And some and some whole septs can be FAR better .
and SOME NEED TO GO TO JAIL.
is that wrong to say?
why do i have defend that position as if I"VE committed a crime in voicing it?
I'll answer your question, speaking solely for me.
The police are about all that stands between us and chaos. And they put their lives on the line.
Yes, they have bad apples, but I give them a ton of respect and credit for those two reasons.
And after Dallas, I think it is irresponsible to keep portraying police as murderers.

ok but i have to say it seems you... and nearly everyone else here... has had a big problem with this thread long before Dallas.
But i have to ask, If a specific police office IS an outright murderer, should it be mentioned here or anywhere Abbey?

Of course. We all post about what matters to us. But don't be surprised when people feel the need to defend the police in return. They do a very difficult job, risk their lives, and have to take all sorts of crap in the process. I would also suggest that it's not so bad to give them a break.

Of course! And no one would, or has said otherwise!! I think everyone agreed that the prick who was nailed shooting the guy in the back should be 100% fully held accountable (Michael Slager). And for me, that means up to and including the death penalty.

Rev, I'm going to jump in here without quoting anyone. I have long ties to police in Chicago and suburbs. My uncle was a lieutenant in Chicago during '68 riots. My brother was on a suburban force, (pop 50k) for just about 30 years. Uncle was 'old school' meaning bad old days in Chicago, yet he himself was very involved with the kids from the districts he'd worked on when he was on the streets. He didn't have kids, so both my aunt and he were like our favorites, they'd do anything for us. He also was like that for kids in the community. When he was retiring after 40 years, a bunch of folks showed up at his party-including kids with cards and telling stories. Their parents thanked him, also telling stories about how he'd bought food, one an old used car to keep a job, would help kids with homework, etc. Most of these folks were from the West Side of Chicago and the Shakespeare District. Neither great neighborhoods even back when. Some of those 'kids' were my age when my uncle died, 4 of them showed up for his wake.
My brother had his bachelor's when he started as a cop-in a city that required a bachelor's or military service. He was on patrol for about 3 years, then became a detective. He'd also completed his MS. He became juvie detective, spent some time in the high school. Became a member of regional advisory force, SWAT, and started teaching SWAT and police driving at U of I. Taught police management at Northwestern. Also was a sergeant, lieutenant, then deputy chief. He turned down being chief-way too many headaches and politics. Truth is, other than the education and more promotions, pretty much was like my uncle regarding working with community.
He's so glad he's not part of it anymore. He feels like the police have no choice now, they are going to be reactive for the foreseeable future. To be proactive is asking for problems that they can't afford. What this means is that they will be vigilant in stopping and arresting when indicated, but will avoid dealing with things that may be questionable and if they have a judgement call to make, it will be to not get involved. Some will have unfortunate results for the community. Some may lead to kids that might have listened, to not have that voice warning them to move away, not toward trouble.
He would not recommend anyone to become a police officer today-indeed he spoke to both his son and my son about other ways to use their degrees in law enforcement-not in police work. That was 8 years ago, even before the shootings. That was heartbreaking for him, he'd been a recruiter for the department for nearly 20 years-now he just couldn't do it. He'd considered it a calling, much like teaching. He saw the best part of his job in prevention of crime, whether talking to homeowners or being in the schools. He worked a lot in the community to establish outlets for kids, especially teens that didn't fit well into sports and activities at the schools.
I don't think these were exceptions to the police, they were the norm. My brother's friends that are cops, several are chiefs in smaller suburbs, really run the same way. They want good relations with the community. They want to identify kids, especially boys that are having a hard time at home-to get some social services and to find some positive activities with adults that might keep them out of trouble.
There are bad cops, trust me, you wouldn't want to be around the bro when one slipped through the screenings. They have a year to get rid of bad cops without cause-keeping the union out of it for the most part. The three biggest problems? 1. lazy and wouldn't do what was needed, forget about above and beyond. 2. power crazy-they are attracted for the power over others, they figured out how to avoid in psych eval, which catches most. 3. corrupt-stealing and intimidating, related to 2., but in it for gain over power.

It amazes me that when you guys get really frustrated you go to the ..
"pick up a weapon and stand on the wall" reply.
Verbal criticism does not phase me.
Hiding behind a keyboard and acting 'holier than thou' rankles me, and quite
a few others.
You think you are higher and holier than anyone else. Let me tell you, Buster...
your long-winded preaching and cut and paste rants are amusing at best.

and there we go again.
no body knows nuthin but Gunny and Elesar.
everyone else should STHU and listen.
Can't take criticism even if it's pointed to FROM OTHER POLICE.
won't acknowledge praise unless it 24/7 say THANKS! and STHU .
sorry not going to happen.
Do you think I do not listen to LE complaints about others in
the same fraternity?
You are so stupid it is astounding. One my co-workers or people
steps over the line, they are going in front of the 'green cloth', i.e. - facing the C.O..
You have the luxury of hiding behind all that, preaching and rattling your spoon.

I think Rev is very principled and he is extremely consistent. He is passionate in what he believes and yes, sometimes goes on a bit. ;) However, 'holier than thou?' Not if you know him a bit. He's a very humble guy and seriously I think would do about anything for anyone. Like many of us, if you just catch him on the causes that rile him, you'll see him only one way.
