Last Tuesday, in my local paper, not just one but two. Friggin' hilarious.
TAMMY MORRIS, Winston-Salem
Determination
I’ve got to admit, I admire the Republican gains during this last election.
And I admire the determination of the Republicans, who are willing to risk their jobs, their pensions, their 401(k)s and their homes, as well as their children’s futures, to put their party back in power even after it did so much damage to them last time around. It takes some grit, determination and a strong sense of morality to risk those things just so they can promote their goal of forcing young women to seek out dangerous illegal abortions rather than having them in safe medical facilities.
BOBBY FIELDS, Winston-Salem
Election results
“We want dirtier air and water so CEOs can make more money!”
“Send our jobs overseas!”
“Stop giving us benefits from our tax dollars!”
“Make our health care even more expensive than it is now!”
“Poor and elderly people – out on the streets!”
“We want more floods and unbearable heat!”
The American people have spoken.

glockmail. Thanks. Those are just more examples that prove how desperate the Un-educated, Easily-led, Gullible Liberal sheep really are.
Truth is. People like them outnumber other Americans who can think, reason, and understand when they are being lied to so often.
So, sad to say. Mr. Gruber, who called all of us STUPID, actually was speaking from FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE after all.

As the electorate turns, there is always going to be a feeling of gloom and doom.

Sure, there were Republicans I would have preferred to see nominated, but it’s a process. You deal with the result.
Along the way, I became one of those angry Republicans. By the time George Bush ran the second time, I suspected that voters like me- loyal conservative evangelicals in favor of smaller government, strong defense and lower taxes- were getting screwed and thrown to the trash.

I'll take my trophy now! :)
George Carlin was right. I saw it happen live at one of his shows as an obese woman tried to scold him on stage and he let her have it as she was leaving the show, 5 minutes after it started.

Two more today!
CAROL MULCOX, Winston-Salem
Education elimination
Why doesn't our state government eliminate public education completely? Just think of the millions of dollars that would be available for more tax cuts for the people who matter.
Besides, the people who matter send their kids to private schools.
DAVID HATCHER, Winston-Salem
A major breakthrough
So Republican congressional leaders are gnashing their teeth over President Obama’s agreement with China to reduce carbon emissions (a major breakthrough and a desperately needed step toward saving our planet).
In an equally surprising event: the sun came up this morning

glockmail. They remind me of the woman who called a police station, somewhere up in the mid-Atlantic states; telling the dispatcher how she just struck a deer, and damaged her car.
She then went on to complain about how "the Deer wasn't paying attention to the DEER CROSSING signs the state had wasted money on...about a mile back".
What planet are those people from???

LEE PULLIAM, Winston-Salem
History
Republicans may continue to humiliate President Obama. The conservative Supreme Court may demolish the Affordable Care Act. Sen. Mitch McConnell may smugly take credit for thwarting Obama's every effort, and the president may leave office viewed as disgraced and defeated. History, I believe, will judge him otherwise.
Although he is given no credit, he has accomplished a great deal, swimming against a tide of hatred and obstructionism all the way. His mistakes are magnified out of all proportion (giving our enemies false ideas of U.S. weakness) while the good he does at home and abroad is relegated to the fine print.
The president is the target, but the American people are the real victims of right-wing politics. It's a good time to be old.
LEON MARTIN, Kernersville
She deserved better
Sen. Kay Hagan lost the election by 45,673 votes. According to the N.C. Board of Elections, there are 2,768,016 registered Democrats and 2,013,346 registered Republicans. Let's set aside the state's unaffiliated voters. If all the Democrats voted and voted for Kay Hagan and all the Republicans did likewise for Thom Tillis, Hagan would have won by 754,670 votes. Does anyone favor compulsory voting?
Sadly, the total number of Democrats who stayed home exceeded the total of votes Sen. Hagan received. She deserved better than that and the Democrats who didn't vote should be ashamed of themselves.
This was a strange election. In some states voters passed a referendum calling for a higher minimum wage and then voted for candidates who were opposed to raising the minimum wage. According to the news media, many of the working poor voted for gubernatorial candidates who were against the expansion of Medicaid to help those same working poor. Some say people voted Republican because they were frightened of Ebola. I just don't get it.
So far, no complaints from the Republicans about voter fraud.
Well, the election is over and the Republicans can get back to what they do best - voting to repeal Obamacare - and Thom Tillis can go back to contemplating whether or not to get rid of the U.S. Department of Education. Sometimes I worry about the future of this country.

What worked in the past for Dems did not work in this election cycle
But they will continue with the same plan for 2016
