An outbreak of violence in rural southwestern Mexico has led civilians in a string of communities to take up arms and police their own communities, shining a light on the lack of state security as a new administration prepares to take on the country’s violence. The latest eruption of citizen policing began about three weeks ago in the small, mountainous town of Ayutla de los Libres, in Guerrero State, when residents picked up rifles and machetes and arrested at least three dozen people they said the authorities had failed to apprehend. Since then, the practice has spread to other areas of the state, with movement leaders and local human rights officials saying more than a hundred small communities are now patrolling themselves. Last week, local news media reported that indigenous communities in Jalisco State were also planning their own citizen police forces.

Vigilante justice is not uncommon in Mexico, particularly in rural, indigenous areas where there is a lack of police officers and mistrust of state institutions runs deep.

Rather than grant legal status, and citizenship to "the country's estimated 11 million illegal immigrants", they should be sent back to Mexico to join in with the vigilance committees there and help to stabilize their own country and reduce the criminal activity there.

Vigilantes Are Busy

Vigilantes who have driven a quasi-religious drug cartel from a series of towns in western Mexico entered a gang-held city on Saturday and were working with government forces to clear it of cartel gunmen, a leader of the movement said.

Dozens of vigilante group members, who wore white t-shirts to identify themselves, were seen by an Associated Press journalist speeding into Apatzingan in the back of pickup trucks. The city of 100,000 in Michoacan state has been under effective control of the Knights Templar cartel for several years.

"Federal forces are working with self-defense groups," vigilante leader Hipolito Mora told The Associated Press by telephone from the center of Apatzingan. "Guys from the self-defense groups are moving around the city, cooperating in certain ways with the federal government. Many, many people have been detained."

The vigilantes' presence in the city is both a symbolic and tactical boost for the movement.

I'm truly surprised that THEY didn't "edit" those two encounters with flies attacking our president.....they, after all, have been so VERY transparent. Honestly, I saw right through this guy from day one.....I've just been shocked that others didn't and that an absolute outcry wasn't heard when B.O. was nominated over HELLary. Talk about 'war on women'....the dims did just that.

This alone should have been his defeat and Hellary's victory but not in a screwed up world it WASN'T. I just hope the Republicans can PROVE to us that they mean business but, alas, they are already proving that they are gonna go the "business as usual" route.
