Ebola may have come to Harlem.

A 33-year-old doctor who recently returned from the disease-wracked West African country of Guinea was rushed Thursday to Bellevue Hospital with symptoms of the deadly disease.

Preliminary results of tests done on the doctor, identified by sources as Craig Spencer, are expected in the next 12 hours, the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said in a statement.

Spencer, who was one of the medics working in Guinea with Doctors Without Borders, had been back for 10 days and told authorities he quarantined himself after developing nausea and a high fever, sources said.

But city health department officials were looking into reports that Spencer was at a bowling alley on Wednesday in Williamsburg and took an Uber taxi to get there, sources said.

He did not self-quarantine. He flew on planes from Guinea to Brussels and then from Brussels back to NYC. He lived in Harlem with his fiancee who he presumably exposed, went bowling last night at a trendy hipster bowling joint (rental shoes, rental ball), taking an Uber ride to get there and back. He sent his clothes out to be dry-cleaned.

Update:

Hotdog, this is some quarantine. He went on a 3-mile run yesterday (where presumably he sweat), took the A (I took the A train yesterday), 1 and L trains, then went bowling, according to the Health Commissioner.

If the above is true, this news is just darn skippy. Makes me glad that I live as far away from any type of urban conclave as I do.

Two New York City police officers who attended the Harlem apartment building of Dr Craig Spencer - the first confirmed Ebola case in the city - were observed afterward dumping their protective gear and caution tape in a garbage bin on the street.

While it was not immediately clear if the two officers had been inside Dr Spencer's apartment, the episode had many people asking if the equipment should not have been disposed of in a biohazard bag - even if only as a precaution.
