Cherokee Chief during War Between the States (played by actor Chief Dan George) talking to Jose Wales about the White Man, the Trail of Tears and the "treaty" that left the Cherokee only one option: Endeavoring to Persevere

Other fantastic quoted from this particular frame of the film:

"....I didn’t surrender, but they took my horse and made him surrender. They have him pulling a wagon up in Kansas I bet. (http://www.moviequoter.com/quote/the-outlaw-josey-wales/i-didnt-surrender-but-they-took-my-horse-and-made-him-surrender-they-have-him-pulling-a-wagon-up-in-kansas-i-bet/)"

ENDEAVOR TO PERSEVERE!!!!!

46:15 When we finished, he shook our hands...
00:46:18 ...and said...
00:46:20 ..."Endeavor to persevere."
00:46:23 They stood us in a line.

00:46:36 They took our pictures.
00:46:39 And the newspaper said...
00:46:41 ..." Indians Vow to Endeavor to Persevere."
00:46:46 We thought about it for a long time.
00:46:49 "Endeavor to persevere."

We thought about it for a long time, “Endeavor to persevere.” And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union.

I’m an Indian, all right; but here in the nation they call us the civilized tribe. They call us civilized because we’re easy to sneak up on. White men have been sneaking up on us for years. Here's one from our very on poster at DP:

Granny Hawkins:
They say you're a hard put and desperate man, Josey Wales. They're goin' to heel and hide you to a barn door. You know what I say?
Josey Wales:
What's that?
Granny Hawkins:
I say that big talk's worth doodly-squat. Now, them poultices be laced with feathermoss and mustard root. Mind you drop water on 'em occasional and keep 'em damp.

RED STATE says that all that big talk's worth doodly-squat as well and would love to meet those who talks all that big talk.

I'm fond of Deadwood, my signature line comes from there. There is another quote that I find accurate too.

"Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back."

Doodly-squat. Hmmm....a perfect description and name for the "stuff" that some of the resident trolls here love to spread around....lol.

Excellent!

Mine comes from Darwinism. Useless people should just do us a favor and die.

Which is kinda what you wrote in another post, prior to me moving it to the cage. Are you really going to push this? We both have been there before, we both know how it ends. You're pushing things too far, you're pushing back at me as I've remained friendly trying to put a stop to this. I believe my hospitality has about run out in the friendliness department. Now I'll just say it outright and in a word - stop.

I had taken the time to actually participate to this thread, finished typing and hit CLICK to see that the thread had been canceled. I had to re-write the thing and saw that a comment had caused every bit of it.

All is well as can be hoped for so carry on with the thread. .

Another quote to apply:
Josey Wales (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000142/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): "Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. 'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is."

Another favorite film quote of mine:
Josey Wales (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000142/?ref_=tt_trv_qu): "....That's true. I ain't promising you nothing extra. I'm just giving you life and you're giving me life. And I'm saying that men can live together without butchering one another."

One of my all-time favourite TV shows is a 'home-grown' one, but which I know was also aired in America: The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan (1960's series).

It had various layers to its plotlines - simply put, though, it was about 'The Village', a pocket society artificially contrived, run by an unknown power, that imprisoned spies and other such people within a totalitarian, '1984' type social system in order to learn all their secrets (it had a Socialist flavour to it: think as we do, do what we want, & you'll be OK. Be an individual instead, with your own mind, and God help you ..).

A favourite quote comes from one of the Village mottos .. 'Questions are a burden to others - answers a prison for oneself'.

Thanks, Drummond,

I believe I've seen a modern version of this...not sure but it no longer airs at all (from any period). Unless you have Netflix (ROKU) or some other such device, you can't watch it. I love my ROKU.

I'm sure you have .. with Jim Caviezel playing the part of No 6 ? It was aired over here, a couple of years ago.

It was quite good (though with a radically different ending to it). I did prefer the McGoohan version, though. McGoohan's one saw No 6 triumph and ultimately destroy The Village, a victory of the indomitable spirit of the individual over Socialist-style totalitarianism.

[It got just a bit too surreal towards the end. Still good, though]

Damn....I missed that one. Must have conflicted with some scifi series. Ironic.....that it came from the UK, which is currently embroiled in the exact same kind of "utopian socialist nightmarish fascism" portrayed in the ""fictional"" series, eh?

Regarding bears : He also claimed bears eat tires. :smoke:

But they eat motor oil for gods sake. They peel the skin off salmon and throw away the meat.
