I recently heard a radio spot, or it may have been a television ad, maybe both... Doesn't matter... The ad was/is essentially an announcement that CVS Pharmacies have changed their name to CVS Health. Oh, and they've decided to stop selling cigarettes. It seems smoking is bad for you. Who knew?
So... The ad leaves one with the impression that it is the detrimental effects of smoking that is the cornerstone of this change... Wait... Here's one of their spots...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWnG_fkQ3aI
That's great, it's a laudable and noble decision. I have no issue with their choice. I have no plan to boycott CVS, truth of it is, I can't remember the last time I was in one... I say good for them. I wish I had never picked one up...
But after some thought it occurred to me...
Did they also stop selling soda pop? Candy? Chips (potato and corn)? Ice Cream? All contribute to obesity. In this country, obesity is giving cigarettes a run for their money in numbers dead...
So this got me wondering... What's their profit on smokes compared to the junk food?
Anyone know? I'm too lazy look it up...
