So I'm new to the forum, I've lurked here a bit - lurking on other forums is a great place to get conversation material, so I kinda know some people here but really not much.
And this topic probably has been posted a bazillion times but hey, I'm new and I need the post count.

Right there beside the " Politics, hell .... don't mess with me or I'll fukkin kill ya" option. Since that particular option aint there, I did not vote.

On the VBulletin platform the thread posts while the poll is still being created so there's usually a delay in the actual poll going up.
More often than not I'll post a poll on a VBulletin platform and after creating the poll options and clicking "submit thread" I already have like 3 responses.

Not seeing it. The Third Reich was a state controlled government. Had there been no WWII, it would have continued without Hitler. So I'd argue it sounds more like OUR government now, than a "neocon".

That question is simplistic. For example, which place is more conservative, New Hampshire or Texas? Which downgrades the level of conservatism more, gay marriage or a sales tax, red light cameras and socialized trash service? NH has gay marriage, but TX has a sales tax, red light cameras and socialized trash service.

THAT is called being stupid, not NAZI. You don't bring "democracy" to a bunch of backwards-assed people who have NO idea of the concept. But there is no real similarity. Bush was after Saddam, period. Not to occupy and absorb.
It isn't about who happens to be President. The President is a red herring. It's about our government and the people who blindly follow it.

I disagree with your definition of "neocon". "Neocon" is a disparaging term used by the left they attach to ALL conservatives. The GOP is "neocon" and doesn't represent true conservatives. You're confusing the definition with the label from the left.
If the GOP would quit cringing at every label the left attaches to it, it'd probably still represent us.

I don't pay much attention to the insulting aspect of how terms are used, their actual meaning is more important to me.
So when I use a term like "neocon" I'm referring to it's actual meaning.
neoconservative; adjective: neo-conservative
1.
relating to or denoting a return to a modified form of a traditional viewpoint, in particular a political ideology characterized by an emphasis on free-market capitalism and an interventionist foreign policy.
I would have added a few more points to this definition though since it's often used in the non-derogatory sense.

Exactly, we do not differ on that. I just wanted to know how baba meant it.
As far as I am concerned a true conservative can not go along with the Republican party's current platform yet we must go along because only two choices exist and not voting(third choice) is a plus and winner for the damn Dems.
Actually, we conservatives are stuck between a damn rock and a damn hard place. Third party is insanity so baba was dead on with some of his castigation of our current two party system.-Tyr

Okay, but who wrote that? The dictionary goes with the media's definition of things.
The term originated from the left and it was meant as an insult. They have to label everything. As the left has shifted left in the paradigm, so has the right in order to compete with the left. You're reacting to a label, and that is what they want. Take your eyes off the issue and focus on the label.
Literally translated, "neocon" mean "new conservative". Moderates voting for the right because the left are quacks. Now the moderates control the GOP. THAT is a "neocon".
:et's go with another label: Liberal. *I* am a liberal in the traditional meaning of the word. I can't stand seeing lefties referred to as "libs". In the traditional sense "liberal" means do what you want as long as you aren't interfering with what I want. It wasn't a political term. How it got attached to stupid Democrats and progressive socialists is beyond me. But it did.
But it's all about reacting to labels meant to disparage the opposition.

Right, a classic liberal is not a person to be criticized by the right. They (the left) have now redefined that word and applied it to their agenda thus it went from being about true freedom to being about leftist ideology.--Tyr
Friedrich Hayek identified two different traditions within classical liberalism: the "British tradition" and the "French tradition". Hayek saw the British philosophers Bernard Mandeville, David Hume, Adam Smith, Adam Ferguson, Josiah Tucker, Edmund Burke and William Paley as representative of a tradition that articulated beliefs in empiricism, the common law, and in traditions and institutions which had spontaneously evolved but were imperfectly understood. The French tradition included Rousseau, Condorcet, the Encyclopedists and the Physiocrats. This tradition believed in rationalism and sometimes showed hostility to tradition and religion. Hayek conceded that the national labels did not exactly correspond to those belonging to each tradition: Hayek saw the Frenchmen Montesquieu, Constant and Tocqueville as belonging to the "British tradition" and the British Thomas Hobbes, Priestley, Richard Price and Thomas Paine as belonging to the "French tradition".[24] Hayek also rejected the label laissez faire as originating from the French tradition and alien to the beliefs of Hume, Smith and Burke.

Hitler was far left regardless the attempt to say otherwise by the left. He may have been the dictator, but it was of a state controlled government.:clap:
This mirrors what I've argued for years.
Quite apart from the fact that Hitler CALLED his party 'Socialist' ... before Hitler rose to power and declared himself to be a dictatorial ruler .. he had to play at being democratic, as did other Party leaders of the time. So it was that Hitler created a 25-point manifesto.
I read through each one, a long time ago. And it struck me then that a good 12 of them were identifiably Socialist in nature. OK ... so it was a Nationalistic variation of Socialism, but regardless, still Socialist.
One obvious giveaway ... the programme of Nationalisation Hitler arranged. This is totally Socialist. Just after WW II, the British Government turned Socialist, and they, too, embarked on wholesale nationalisation of British industry (... when they weren't busily bankrupting us with the introduction of our NHS, that is ..).

I have decided to not fall for the Label identity here. Locking myself, or anyone else into a box by descriptive titles seems to be more of a hazard these days since...it is impossible for everyone to please everyone else.
Truth is. In today's constantly troubled, challenging world of politics, name calling, and identity destruction. I'd rather keep everyone guessing since what I bring here doesn't really matter anyhow.
Trying to HERD all of the members into separate, distinct groupings tends to destroy...in the long run...the intent of a Forum. The rules begin to change drastically to suit certain members...to a point where the Mob Rule mentality is allowed to take over, and members decide WHO, and WHEN other members are permitted to offer their opinions, idea's, or thoughts.
I go by what our present Governmental Administration, combined with Political Correctness declares we each are, as Americans.
To many. I am just another, old American. While others think of me the same way Our Pretend President thinks of me. As a Home Grown Terrorist because I am a Veteran. And, as a RACIST because I am not afraid to speak, or be honest about what Racists do, and are who call me a racist.

How it got attached to stupid Democrats and progressive socialists is beyond me. But it did.
But it's all about reacting to labels meant to disparage the opposition.
50-60 years ago, Democrats were, in fact, a lot closer to the classic definition of Liberalism. When the party did a FTL-speed jump to the far left in the 90s, the term "Liberal" became a liability, and true to form by the Far Left, they did their typical semantic bullshit and changed the terminology to "Progressive." Now that it's viewed as a pejorative by Moderate Leftists, Republicans, and Conservatives, they'll probably change it again. Anyone with half a brain can figure out that they continuously do this crap to run and hide from the (justifiable) negative perceptions and the criticisms leveled on them.

Labeling and Identity Politics are tools of Progressive Leftism. Their enemy is Individualism, which must be destroyed in order to achieve their delusional goal of a Global Socialist Utopia. and they use labels (often in the form of hyphenates) to foment division and tension, foster the victimization mentality for profit, and above all else, to maintain control.
