My best friend is a very kind, sweet and compassionate mother of two who lives in a small town about midway between Manchester and Liverpool. In the 24 years since we first met, I never imagined her with the ability to even threaten another person, much less fight them.
Until Tuesday night, when I got my first chance to see her in a kick boxing match with a woman who was built like a small tank. It was extremely vicious. The other woman had the edge for the first two rounds and began to talk smack, which did not go over well with a taller woman with a bruised face and a bloody nose.
The fourth round went the other way, with a few well placed punches and kicks sending Miss Tank to the canvas and an eventual date with a stretcher.
My daughter enjoyed it.

I'm so glad that your stay in the UK was productively spent, Gabby ... soaking up 'the best that British culture has to offer' ...

I won't comment on the thought that, geographically speaking, you were most probably situated in a traditional Socialist-supporting area ..

Have you ever thought of becoming a Millwall supporter ?

Wow, that sounds intense, I would have cried seeing my friend get hurt. :laugh2:

Considering that my friend and her husband are notoriously apolitical, I wouldn't know which way the area was leaning.
We also did the tourist thing in London for a few days. The one book store with the great history selection will certainly have my husband grumbling when he gets the credit card bill.
Also, my daughter took one of the classes on "how to be a proper lady" that the English are so famous for. It really helped her when we went to my friend's wedding in Milan. Which was held in an ornate church dating back to the 1500s and attended by about 600 people. I think the majority of the former Burlesconi administration were present. At least the ones who aren't currently in jail.

Self defense training is always a plus. In the 5th and 6th grade, for PE, my granddaughter had training in Chun Kuk Do. I wish they had made it available after that but it was a charter school and a new teacher came through and wanted to teach fencing. :slap:

My kids all dance. Oh sure, it looks prissy, but if push came to shove, they could easily give someone a round house kick to the side of the head.

(that was a joke, btw)

My daughter has taken a form of self defense called street fighting. Which teaches you all the methods of taking down an opponent by the quickest and most effective way possible.
My daughter also took fencing. Which is remarkable for your reflexes and motor skills, as well as teaching you to think and react quickly.
