I'm all for prosecuting assholes that steal secrets and/or simply spy. But this seems funny considering the NSA issues of late and the knowledge that they apparently spied on everyone in the world.

The Justice Department has filed criminal charges against several Chinese government officials, accusing them of stealing American trade secrets through cyber espionage, according to U.S. officials familiar with the case.

It's the first time the United States has brought cyber espionage charges against a state actor.

Details of the charges are to be announced by Attorney General Eric Holder later on Monday.

The charges will name several individuals who are Chinese government employees, according to a U.S. official. "They used military and intelligence facilities to commit cyber espionage against U.S. companies," the official said.

It's been known for a long time now that the Chinese steal our military & industrial secrets on a daily basis.

I'm not sure what Obama thinks will come of this, because China is a commie country and these individuals, whoever they are, were given the task of hacking our systems. The perps didn't get up one morning and decide to hack U.S. Steel to get an edge over their competition, they're government workers.

Other than trying in absentia and finding these individuals guilty, what real & meaningful punishment can possibly be delivered?

Unless there is a UN legal route that can impose fines on China?
