Philippine leader likens China's rulers to Hitler

Manila (AFP) - Philippine President Benigno Aquino has warned China's efforts to claim disputed territories are like Nazi Germany's before World War II, drawing a fierce Chinese response on Wednesday branding him ignorant and amateurish.

In an interview with the New York Times, Aquino called for world leaders not to make the mistake of appeasing China as it seeks to cement control over contested waters and islands in the strategically vital South China Sea.

"At what point do you say: 'Enough is enough'? Well, the world has to say it -— remember that the Sudetenland was given in an attempt to appease Hitler to prevent World War II," Aquino told the New York Times in Manila on Tuesday.

Aquino was referring to the failure by Western nations to back Czechoslovakia when Adolf Hitler-led Nazi Germany occupied western parts of the European nation in 1938 ahead of World War II.

Aquino's comments come less than two weeks after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe raised the temperature in a parallel territorial dispute with China by appearing to compare Sino-Japanese relations with the run-up to World War I.

Japan and China are at loggerheads over the sovereignty of disputed islands in the East China Sea, raising fears about a military confrontation between Asia's two biggest economies.

China also claims nearly all of the South China Sea, one of the world's most important waterways as it is home to vital shipping lanes and is believed to sit atop lucrative deposits of natural resources.

But the Philippines, as well as Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and the Taiwan, have overlapping claims to some of the waters, and those disputes have for decades made the South China Sea another potential trigger for military conflict.

China has been steadily increasing its military and coast guard presence in the sea in recent years to assert its claim, causing diplomatic tensions to rise and stoking concerns in the Philippines about perceived Chinese bullying.

The Philippines says Chinese vessels have since 2012 effectively occupied a rich fishing area called Scarborough Shoal, which is about 220 kilometres (135 miles) off its main island but 650 kilometres from the nearest major Chinese land mass.

The Philippines launched legal action with a United Nations tribunal last year, asking it to rule the Chinese South China Sea claim is invalid. China has refused to participate in the UN process. At least somebody sees the truth of the journey China has chosen to embark on..-Tyr

Why don't you look at the journey the US has been embarking all this while?

Comparing China to the US is akin to comparing an elephant to a Tyrannosaurus rex.

"In his history of hemispheric relations, British scholar Gordon Connell-Smith writes, 'While paying lip-service to the encouragement of representative democracy in Latin America, the United States has a strong interest in just the reverse,' apart from 'procedural democracy, especially the holding of elections, which only too often have proved farcical.'"

I believe I read elsewhere that you are from China, but currently abroad in Thailand, on a business trip ? And I see that you've only just joined this forum.

So I have questions - an honest response would be appreciated.

We hear that Internet access is far from unhindered in China. To be more specific ..

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2014/02/05/top-ten-internet-censors/5222385/

China has the most rigid censorship program in the world. The government filters searches, block sites and erases "inconvenient" content, rerouting search terms on Taiwan independence or the Tiananmen Square massacre to items favorable to the Communist Party.

It occurs to me that you may have taken advantage of your time outside Chinese territory to join this forum, because otherwise, you'd have had trouble accessing it, courtesy of your reportedly rather repressive regime at home ? Is that true ? And will you continue on this forum - or even be ABLE TO - once you return to China ?

If you are able to .. do you anticipate trouble from your authorities if you manage to continue to participate ?

1. My esteemed friend, I am an overseas Chinese, meaning that I was born outside China and is not a citizen of China.

With regard to that fellow who likened China's rulers to Hitler, he was exaggerating and speaking with his head in the clouds. It was quite surprising that the fellow, a descendant of a Chinese immigrant who made good in the Philippines, could launch the fiercest verbal attack on the land of his ancestors.

Talking about your so-called "repressive regime", you have to go to North Korea to see the real one for yourself. Down there, you will see the true meaning of a "repressive regime". In that country, nobody is allowed to travel beyond the borders without the government's permission, and there is absolutely no freedom.

Now Chinese nationals are allowed to travel anywhere they like, so much so they often become a prime target for muggers, pickpockets and kidnappers in the countries they travel, particularly Africa, the Middle East and the Philippines.

All countries, including America (the champion of liberty) and Japan (China's bitter enemy), are doing their best to attract Chinese tourists. Now even France, which gave America the Statue of Liberty, invites police from your so-called "repressive regime" to patrol the streets of Paris. Perhaps there will come a time when Uncle Sam will also invite police from your so-called "repressive regime" to patrol the streets of Washington! :)

2. "TOKYO — The Ugly Americans terrorized Europeans and Asians with their booming voices and tennis shoes in the years after World War II. Decades later, Japanese tour groups descended from their air-conditioned buses to flash peace signs as they shot photos of every known landmark as well as laundry on backyard clotheslines.

Now it is China’s turn to face the brunt of complaints. The grievances are familiar — they gawk, they shove, they eschew local cuisine, and last year, 83 million mainland Chinese spent $102 billion abroad — overtaking Americans and Germans — making them the world’s biggest tourism spenders, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization."

My esteemed friend, as I had disclosed in my previous post, I am an overseas Chinese, meaning that my home is outside China, just like the case of the fellow who likened China's rulers to Hitler. Hence, there is no question of your so-called "return home".

Perhaps one day when I "return home" to God's Kingdom, I shall have absolute freedom to post to every corner of the universe, including your home. So please sleep soundly and don't wake up sweating heavily every night!

The Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Declaration stipulated that Japan, a defeated nation of World War 2, must return all that it had taken by force to the original owners.

It is regrettable that the Diaoyu dispute has woken up all the sleeping, blind dogs like you.

In the final analysis, the US is the root cause of the current conflict in East Asia. As a Chinese saying goes, he who ties the knot should untie the knot. The best course for China now is to go after the US instead of Japan. It should bite hard at Uncle Sam's leg to the bone like a bulldog, not only reminding America of its obligation under the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Declaration but also the US-Sino joint administration of the Ryukyu chain.

First of all, welcome to our esteemed new member. :cheers2:
I noticed that Mr. Reedak mentions the oppressive government of North Korea. Though he fails to mention that China supports North Korea. And that Koreans who seek to escape their oppressive existence in China are quickly returned, even though they face certain death.
Of course Americans welcome Chinese tourists. The U.S. welcomes tourists from all countries. They are vital to our economy. So why are the Chinese not as welcoming to U.S. tourists?
Any Chinese who feels the U.S. has an obligation to their country is forgetting Korea and Viet Nam. Not to mention the Chinese hostility toward any country who opposes its attempted land grab of Taiwan.
The Chinese like to point out how the feel that the U.S. is a "broken government." While conveniently forgetting the Chinese citizens have few freedoms in their homeland. Any member of the Chinese lower class who has had their property seized in the name of "progress." Not to mention the fact that well connected Chinese are quite prosperous, while the lower class has virtually nothing.
China has made great strides in development. At the cost of its way of life, where the air is virtually unbreathable and water is not fit for drinking.

Reedak, I remember you now. You posted that story a few months ago about the chained dog and the owl and the priest. I never understood the symbolism, but it was a good story... perhaps you can explain it to me.

So you are a citizen of Thailand and are of Chinese descent? Or are you a Chinese citizen stationed in Thailand, working for the Chinese government?

You seem to have an excellent grasp on English and use it with minimal errors, so you're very well educated - where did you receive your education?

Reedak, I remember you now. You posted that story a few months ago about the chained dog and the owl and the priest. I never understood the symbolism, but it was a good story... perhaps you can explain it to me...

Like all other writers, poets and artists, I give others full rein to interpret my fairy tales. One guy who impresses me most with his interpretation is my esteemed friend, Tyr-Ziu Saxnot. You may seek his opinion on this.

....So you are a citizen of Thailand and are of Chinese descent? Or are you a Chinese citizen stationed in Thailand, working for the Chinese government?....

I am an overseas Chinese born in Cambodia. I move around the world as a travelling salesman. Currently I am in Thailand on a business trip. I don't work for anybody but myself. If you perceive that I am guilty of speaking up for China and the Chinese, let it be. I am just proud of the Chinese ancestral genes in blood.

To speak frankly, the Chinese race would have long gone the way of the Red Indians in the past few centuries if we can’t even find a single person who is not proud of the genes that currently make up one fifth to one quarter of mankind.

The future of mankind would be doomed if we could not find in such a sizable proportion of humanity a single "knight-errant" or a "bounty hunter" who takes the trouble like Clint Eastwood in his cowboy movies to go after the bad and the ugly.

To reiterate, I work for nobody but myself. But if you and your kind still insist that I am working for others, my answer is that I am working for my race -- the Chinese race.

....You seem to have an excellent grasp on English and use it with minimal errors, so you're very well educated - where did you receive your education?

Actually, my grasp on English is not that good. I am not shy to tell you one secret -- I use software to check my grammar and spelling after every writing.

Firstly, Americans like you would think that your country offers the best education. I would be guilty of hurting your national pride and planting the "seed of heart attack" in your body by revealing that I received my education in non-American schools.

Secondly, I don't advertise for any company or educational institution free of charge. If you were to be reborn like a lama and become a small child in your next life, I would at least tell you the best place for kindergarten education so that your "grasp on English" would be as good as mine.

In conclusion, I wish you a happy trip on your night train. ;)

First of all, a hearty thank for your warm welcome.

There are some valid points in your post.

However, I have to point out that Taiwan was part of China until its seizure by Japanese invaders.

To argue endlessly over the problem of Taiwan is no different from the bizarre undertaking of the Wise Men of Gotham.

Well, since it is a residual problem of history, it's better to let time and history decide the final outcome.

I also wish to comment on your claim that "well connected Chinese are quite prosperous, while the lower class has virtually nothing." While it is true to a certain extent, it is not totally accurate.

Nowadays, Chinese tourists are flooding the world. Please don't tell me that those who have the extra money to spend for sightseeing and holiday trips are all "well connected Chinese".

Take for instance, in 2013, the number of outbound tourists totals 97,300,000. Please don't tell me all those 97,300,000 people were "well connected".

A "diplomatically hammered out solution" exists all this while in the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Declaration. It is only the US which unilaterally discarded the solution and created all the troubles in East Asia for its usual strategy of "divide and conquer".

The following should be the persistent stance of China without being deflected by any silly joke, rumour, allegation, etc not originated from the Chinese top leadership:

"Whether there is Obama or no Obama, whether a "mouse" or a "man-eating tiger" is in charge in the White House, whoever is ruling China should and must keep pestering whoever is ruling America for a satisfactory explanation why the US failed to carry out what was stated in the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Declaration, as well as a satisfactory explanation why the US failed to carry out the US-Sino joint administration of the Ryuku chain."

The following is food for thought for thoughtful people, not naive people:

Chinese claim for Hawaii? What a joke by the Chinese joker and Hillary Clinton!

It is a mystery that the US government, US Congress, Obama and Hillary Clinton have never raised any official protest or a huge furore about the so-called Chinese claim for Hawaii.

Who is the Chinese guy who was alleged to make this so-called claim or joke? Surely not Xi Jinping. I hope Hillary Clinton could come out to clarify the whole matter once and for all.

P.S. I am still waiting for the US administration to raise an official protest over the so-called Chinese claim for Hawaii. Continued silence from the US government over the allegation or joke could only make it fishier and more mysterious.
