As far as the UK is concerned increasing the GDP to create new jobs is complete and utter nonsense!
You must understand that the Native British population, together with that of recent immigrants who have adapted to the British way of life, is contracting very rapidly as the old die off.
This is due to the fact that even with child benefits the majority of modern women choose to have only one or two children ie below replacement rate.
The only reason that you have a large number of unemployed amongst the indigenous and the socially adapted immigrants is that British employers prefer to take on the very much cheaper NON-UNIONIZED European immigrants.
The result is a continuous decline in the standard of liviing of the working man who has no say in what is going on ( the present 'Labour' party only represents non-manual workers ) and a maked decline in productivity as cheap manual labour takes the place of the need for investment in labour saving machines.
Both the long term standard of living of the new poor, together with productivity, will fall to third world levels - whose population increase the UK already matches.

When British Employers talk of creating new jobs they are only for imported labour whose social needs ( the reason they come) will be met by the employed tax payer.

The indigenous and socially adapted should upgrade their skills so that they can demand higher wages.

Evidently, grammar is one of the skills that requires some revision. :)

Shh, don't criticize the ranticals, it causes quite the kerfuffle because grammar skills have no correlation to wages or intelligence.

Perhaps so at that. I personally mourn the disinterest which persists in supporting, and further creating, our Grammar schools.

Labour's Comprehensive Education drive, from the 1960's onwards, has a lot to answer for. But happily, the Grammar school I attended escaped Labour's assault on them.

Just one of the many ways that our Socialists have engineered their social sabotage ....

Hello, 'Tricky'. Do I correcty gather from this that you are British ? If so, welcome .. I'm English myself, now living in Wales.

As for the post I'm replying to ... some interesting comments.

First off ... there seems to be an assumption in this that an increase in GDP to create new jobs is a principle that can't work. I'm unconvinced .. why do you think that the arguments you give rule that out ?

That's not to say there isn't a certain truth to what you describe - I recognise that you have a valid point or 2. That the 'native' Brits are reducing in number, proportionally so, that is true. That said, the elderly are living longer than ever, and remember, the age at which you qualify for State pension is being revised upwards all the time to take account of it (... which also therefore means that they'll stay in work for longer).

Fact ... immigrants take the majority of jobs going. If I recall correctly, at least twice as many jobs go to immigrants these days as anybody else. Why ? Partly because of the influx of them, partly because they're willing to work for smaller wage packets. Granted also that there are many employers who'd prefer non-Unionised labour. Even so ... some employers, and some industries, are so well established that Unionised labour is something they have to live with. So yours is - to an extent - a sweeping conclusion to arrive at. Not without merit by any means ... just a little too sweeping, I think ..

You do make one statement which I definitely take issue with .. because I simply can't see where you get your idea from. You say ...

'The present 'Labour' party only represents non-manual workers'

What do you base that on ?

I think the reality is that Labour - traditionally speaking - would always CLAIM to represent 'the working classes', manual or non-manual workers amongst them. Why do you suggest otherwise ?

As for the ACTUAL reality ... Labour are completely opportunist. Yes, because of their Socialist roots, they're not the natural ally of big business. That doesn't stop them, however, of going all out to suck up to ANYONE who'll further their power-grabbing ambitions. Ed Miliband looks like he'll do more to represent traditional Socialism than Blair or Brown ever did, but make no mistake, Labour will crawl to anyone who has something to offer them in terms of power acquisition.

It's the truth of them. All they really care about is power.

There is great freedom of speech here. You can even call out for the extermination of an entire group or race of people without being banned here.

The extremes of Freedom of Speech are not always easy to take, but most of us in this country wouldn't have it any other way.

You mean like how you support Bashar Assad? :p Like how you support Hamas. Assad is a Saint compared to the groups you support that are trying to take over there. You a support them although they murder thousands themselves and preach to murder even more. -Tyr

I've said before I don't agree with a lot of what Hamas does, but I do support the idea that the Palestinians have a right to fight back against Israeli oppression.

If you want to compare numbers, through all of history, the Palestinians haven't caused deaths anywhere near the 120,000+ Assad has killed in a very short amount of time.

If only people made sensible replies, based on their own reasoning powers and experience of reality and not the claptrap the media propaganda and liberal education has drummend into their young naive minds, I would not become bored so easily. Stupid people are two a penny, I don't need to go onto the internet to have meanigless discussions. People are either articulate monkeys who repeat what their particular sub-culture tribal credo is in order to dominate and advertise their social status or they are real human beings with a mind that does not conform to Darwinian explanations.
The world is much more than Repuplican cliches ( tea party or liberal capitalism ) or Democratic over simplification.

Hells yes!

Next on the Agenda is who to carpet-bomb next.

It's down to either Australia or Guatemala.

We're overstocked on Daisy Cutters and as we all know, they just don't perform like they do when fresh.
