In this case, seems the 911 operator took the call incorrectly. In your scenario, mistakes wouldn't be the reason, just $$. In both cases, if the owner wasn't armed, this would have likely been much worse.

Relying on the police is bad policy. They are there to take out the bad guys, AFTER they've completed their bad.

Absolutely Correct Kathianne. The public generally has the wrong idea about police protection. It would be impossible for any police force, anywhere. To have enough personnel to be EVERYWHERE. Unless...you live in a Police State. If any American wants that kind of protection. They must be willing to give-up all of their RIGHTS to Privacy, and forget the Constitution.
