WTF!
Today’s tomatoes are sporting a brand-new label and begging to be pelted at pelt-wearers.
Tomatoes emblazoned with stickers encouraging shoppers to "throw me at a fur-wearer" have been cropping up in produce aisles. The popular plump red vegetable that until now, has been known mainly as a harmless ingredient in spaghetti sauce is stirring up the most controversy in its history since the "Is it a vegetable or a fruit?" flap.
Whether you call them tomatoes or to-mah-toes, these veggies are seeing red over cruelty to animals.
Fur-wearers, be warned—vigilante vegetables are ready to paint the town red. If you still wear fur—despite the fact that animals are bludgeoned, electrocuted, poisoned, gassed, shot and have their necks broken just so you can look old, fat, or really cheap—you’d better be prepared to meet your ‘mater. No mink stole or raccoon wrap is safe from a pulpy projectile that’s gone to seed.
Choose Your Tomato Torpedo!
We recommend the following varieties to give you the most squash for your cash:
Rambo Red
This veteran of the fur wars is guaranteed to generate the highest dry-cleaning bills.
Cherry Bomb
Explodes into a pulpy mess on impact.
The "Terminator"
"I’ll be back"—exactly the body part this juicy number likes to land on.
Beefsteak
A prime favorite in steakhouse cloakrooms
Salad
Best when tossed, of course
Apple
An extra-squishy cultivar packed with shower power.
Ready, aim, splat!

Seeing red over the torment of animals killed for their skins? Blow off some steam and test your aim by tossing tomatoes at slow-moving, dull-witted fur-wearers. It’s fun and easy!

Well Steph... .if you need any tomatoes for ammo.... I know just the place where you can get lots!
Did I tell you about my Dad and his garden?
He has a garden that is the size of a small city. My Mom just hates it and wants him to stop. I told her that it's better that he's more interested in raising tomatoes than chasing some hussy or hanging out at the local bar. She just shrugs, mumbles and changes the subject.....
What's the guy to do? He speaks English, but with a thick accent, he doesn't read very well, all his buddies are dead or in the nursing home. I suspect he's secretly watching "Oprah" during the day....
My Dad grows a fig tree at their house (and they live in Endicott, as I do)... tons of grapes, peaches, apples, pears (and yes, he makes his own wine)
That wine... if I ever needed to fuel up my car and there was no gas within 50 miles of here... that wine might just do the trick!
I swear, my Dad can grow a sequoia tree on the Moon... now me, I don't have a green thumb... in fact, I once had plastic flowers and I killed them!
The local Agway begged him to come out of retirement and help them out during the planting season.... I told him he should have taken it... it had two things he liked best... gardening and talking to people all day long, especially when he gets to tell people what to do and how to do it (my Dad considers himself the life of the party, btw...)
I am not in want for fresh tomatoes, cukes, or lettuce all summer long. In fact, by the end of the summer, I'm all tomatoed out!
OK ... back to the topic at hand

I lived in that area for 11 years. I had 12" deep topsoil on my property and grew all my own veggies, canned and froze for the long winter. The only drawback was the short growing season (and the high property taxes). The red dirt, eroded soil around here just doesn't can't compare.

Now that IBM has left the area, property taxes have skyrocketed....
Unfortunately, the winters are still long and cold
I'll have to write Al Gore and have him bring some global warming up this way! :)

Too bad the government couldn't cut staff and budget in accordance with the industry leaving the State. When I was lived there, I was an elected official in the NYS Conservative Party, and we had a saying: In NYS, Rebuplicans are liberals, and Democrats are socialists.
My property taxes are about 1/4 the rate that I was paying near Syracuse.

I quit the Republican Party and joined the NYS Conservative Party myself. I got fed up with RINOs and with the Bush Administration ignoring the wishes of real conservatives.
