They're Not Going To Take It Anymore: New Generation Of Immigrant Advocates Take Radical Approach

The frustration, say immigration advocates, is reaching a fever pitch.

That is why, many say, recent weeks have seen activists use chains and pipes to tie themselves to the tires of buses that carry immigrants slated for deportation to court, block traffic on Capitol Hill and get arrested, surround Tucson police when they targeted two immigrants during a traffic stop, and chain themselves and block the entrance of a federal detention center.

More such actions, they vow, are coming.

“It's absolutely out of frustration and impatience,” said Marisa Franco, campaign organizer for the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, which helped coordinate some of the more provocative actions. "Immigrant communities who are losing 1,100 loved ones every day to deportation cannot wait for Congress to end its political games or for the President to rediscover his moral compass," she added.

Y'know what? They're kind of right to be pissed. Let's back up for a moment here, and look at the causes of illegal immigration. Basically, the Dems have promised them that they won't be deported for being here illegally, and since the Dems control both the Senate and the Presidency, they feel they've been lied to by those in power. Immigration reform is needed, but the Dems never actually want to move forward on it, just like putting up legislation on their other campaign promise issues, abortion and gay marriage. Seriously, they had an open net to score in for two years, and nothing. So why keep harping on it? Because they're hoping that Republicans will get all bent out of shape, and say something stupid. Unfortunately, this tactic has been absurdly effective.

Immigration reform needs to go like this: evicting 12,000,000 is just unfeasible in a logistic sense, so some sort of path to citizenship does need to exist, along with a streamlining of the immigration process. however, that does not obviate responsibility for breaking the laws, and those who are here are going to need to do a few things.

1) Paperwork: current illegals will need to file paperwork using the streamlined system, and paying the reduced fees ($9000 USD to file the paperwork was insane) of the more streamlined system.

2) If they cannot afford the fees, they have a few options. a) It can be assessed as a tax penalty on their returns, until it is paid off, b) If they or a family meets the requirements, a member of the family can sign into the US Military for at least one tour, unless they are medically discharged for service-related injury c) They can pay it off in installments, but if they lapse, this option goes off the table, and we go back to the deportation.

3) If you're on the hook for crimes in your home country such as murder or rape, you are going back, period. If you're on the hook for crimes there that are not crimes here, you can go for asylum (In say, cases where a woman flees to the US because she's on the hook for adultery because she was raped in her home country, where getting raped is legally on the woman). we're usually pretty good about granting this, I mean, we're not assholes.

4) Any business in the future found to knowingly hired an illegal will lose all licenses, be it business, liquor, construction, or whatnot, it's gone. We have systems to check the ID of those who get hired, so there is no viable excuse for not doing due diligence.

This is a pretty straightforward way of dealing with the current Illegal Immigration debacle. We don't need a wall, we just need a solid common sense approach that addresses the issues. Continuing to just let illegals do whatever is simply not a solution, but an escalation of the problem.

Most of what you say is reasonable, though before moving forward at all, there needs to be a few things done:

1. Repeal the 14th amendment. Slavery is over, has been for a long time. This amendment no longer makes sense. We'll have to deal with those before repeal, but stop allowing more.

2. Close the borders, We have the means to monitor them, for crying out loud, the NSA is collecting our data, spend the money to satellite the borders. Arrest and deport.

3. Set up commune type school/living arrangement for anchor babies/children/teens the parents don't want to take 'home.' Provide a reasonable choice, then let the parents decide, before deportation.

The immigration system isn't broken. Only item 4 is necessary. Isn't it interesting that Bay County, Florida USED TO have an illegal immigrant problem. Sheriff Frank McKeithen solved the problem by vigorously enforcing STATE document counterfeiting laws with a judge willing to hand out maximum sentences. It's very difficult to demand a "right" to use and produce counterfeit documents.

Actually if #4 were enforced we wouldn't have a problem with illegal immigration. It's hard to live somewhere when you aren't able to earn a living. We have e-verify, there is no reason businesses shouldn't be liable for knowing hiring illegals.

So let's see if I have this: In every other regards, we are in agreement that Government programs and agencies generally work in an inefficient, and often times, incompetent manner. All aside from Immigration, according to you.
