View Full Version : DC Navy Yard's Marine Barracks soldiers had guns... but no ammo???

This one has me baffled. Or maybe "flabbergasted" is the right word. The Marines stationed at the Marine Barracks in the Washington Naval Yard, had their weapons with them... but were not allowed to have ammo?
I am at a complete loss to understand how anybody could have considered that a good policy.
Yet it was done.

(snip)
In the wake of the horrific shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, one individual made an interesting point about yesterday's mass shooting at the Navy Yard in the nation's capital:
"I know a lot of people are concerned about guns these days, but you know if everybody had arms, then there wouldn't be these problems.
"My son was at Marine Barracks -- at the Navy Yard yesterday - and they had weapons with them, but they didn't have ammunition. And they said, 'We were trained, and if we had the ammunition, we could've cleared that building.' Only three people had been shot at that time, and they could've stopped the rest of it."
(snip)
Back in 1993, the Clinton administration virtually declared military establishments "gun-free zones." As a result, the policy banned "military personnel from carrying their own personal firearms and mandates that 'a credible and specific threat against [Department of the Army] personnel [exist] in that region" before military personnel 'may be authorized to carry firearms for personal protection." Indeed, most military bases have relatively few military police as they are in heavy demand to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan," according to economist John Lott.
Additionally, Lott discovered that "every public shooting since at least 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry guns."
The answer is simple. Murderers pick places where they know their victims will be unarmed. It's time we debate having concealed carry on military bases. After all, there's no evidence showing that firearms owners are more irresponsible than the police....

TRUE ENOUGH! The Only ARMED personnel on most military bases are those standing their DUTY at the gates, or at entrances to Highly Secure Buildings.
I know it sounds really dumb. But for most civilians who think ALL MILITARY PEOPLE on bases walk around with loaded weapons...IT JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN.

Going back in history many countries had the policy of not issuing ammo to the troops until just before going into battle. It was to prevent mutiny in the ranks. It's an old European policy, imagine that. Just another thing to blame clinton with. So many of our problems today have their roots in the clinton administration.
In Vietnam, when back in the big base camps, we carried our weapons with no magazine in the chamber. But we always carried the magazines with us.

Gaffer. Just another stupid example of how Political Correctness 5553 has been inserted into nearly every aspect of life. If someone is insulted, offended, bothered, or CAN THINK of a reason. You can bet some Politician has made it their life's work to BAN, PREVENT, or AVOID something.
Stupidity and Ignorance do not require any Amendments to the Constitution. So great quantities of STUPIDITY, and IGNORANCE exist. And nobody can ever take that away!

When I did some guard duty at a barracks back in Perth, we were also issued rifles without ammo. I guess it's a normal thing. The threat of having a rifle pointed at you would be enough for most people to comply with a soldier. ;)

yep. Laws like that only work on the law abiding. Doesn't do crap in preventing the determined criminal. It seems to me that this particular fiasco (preventing trained personnel from having ammunition) is more about the fear of military personnel partaking in a revolution against the government than it is about security.

CSM. Which also tends to highlight the question, as to why HOMELAND SECURITY purchased Billions (B) of rounds of Ammunition over the last several months.
Military Armories normally are the guarded sources of Ammunition for our military that is NOT in a war zone, or in Hostile Territory. I do suspect. The Obama admin, and the "Wuss Patrol" in the Pentagon where FLAG OFFICERS sit on their hands...hoping NOT to be the next General, or Admiral Drummed out of their military career...because they disagree with the Obama Cut and Run, Weenie games.
Of course. Since a great majority of the American population has been Dumbed-down, and simply doesn't care. There's no reason for American Marines, Sailors, Soldiers to have access to ammo for their weapons. It will make it easier for people like the NAVY YARD MURDERER to complete his deed, and complain about being treated badly. Despite his MENTAL ILLNESS.

Unless of course they are armed or are out to kill you - then you are history
Guns without bullets is like a Muslim without a suicide vest

Shooting a bullet from a gun is a gross violation of gun culture and totally against gun laws?

In many blue cities/states - yes
In DC you can be arrested and tosses in jail if a cop sees an empty shotgun shell on the floor of your car/truck.

No guns in my area. Nobody gets shot ever. In fact, the most exciting local news ever was when some guy's dog joined the State Emergency Service a few years ago. I like living in a quiet, boring suburb :)

After 9/11 when I was doing security at the Groton sub base, the civilians that worked on the base started complaining about people with guns, so when we were 'off watch' and were going to swing into the exchange or hit subway for some food, we had to first go to the armory and check in our weapons, so as not to upset the civilians on base. Pure stupidity.

After all, there's no evidence showing that firearms owners are more irresponsible than the police....I makes no sense for sure, but the sad thing is, this will not slow the gun grabbers at all, they will ignore the obvious, and or probably already trying to silence this story.
