I know there's nothing special about a Toyota 4Runner, but she's my baby. It's a 2004, awesome shape and the mileage is now at 70,300. Not bad for a 9 year old truck! I get it maintained regularly and refuse to beat on it.

70k is still a baby. Nice job keeping the rust at bay though, that's not easy in NY.

I always kept cars a long time. I love to maintain them myself, never abuse them and they treat me like I treat them. But when I lived in the NE they just rusted into crap, so had to get rid of them.

When I moved South in '96 I finally got rid of my '85 TBird, which I had planned to own forever, again because of rust. Then I went through a series of cars every 3 years since my work or lifestyle kept changing (kids will do that to you). '98 Mustang GT (red with a 5 speed), an '02 2WD Explorer, an '04 4WD Explorer, an '07 4WD Expedition, and now a '12 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.

Now that they're both in college my lifestyle is more stable and I plan on keeping the GCO for a long time. 3.6L Pentastar V6 with twin variable valve timing and DOHC. I get 23+ mpg on the highway. Fully independent, on-the-fly adjustable air suspension. Dial-in 5 different settings for the transaxle, plus a 4WD low mode. Wood and leather interior. It's my favorite vehicle of all time.

My son has my 04 Explorer and it has 120k on it now. My daughter has an 05 Mustang that we bought with 100k on it, put a new GT suspension in it, new upholstery and a dual exhaust and it has 120K on it too. Both vehicles have the same 4.0L V6 in it, made in Cologne, Germany, and they both run perfectly.

My 1993 ford ranger just up and died on me, luckily we found out it's the timing belt and not the transmission. (it's a stick shift and my baby)

You'd like the new Charger. The went fully independent suspension in '11 or '12. The Challenger is on a similar chassis. Both are awesome cars.

Yes, been thinking about my next car being a Dodge Charger. However the wife is not too keen on it. She wants an SUV gas hog. While I may not get the Charger, I am damn sure also that she'll not get the gas hog.--Tyr

A happy wife is a happy life. Mine wanted me to get the 07 Expedition, and I figured, what the hell. It was a great vehicle and we took a lot of trips with two teenagers and all out gear, up to 6 sets of skis. But I was very glad to get rid of it because 17 mpg highway was the best it would do. My Jeep gets 35% better mileage, it took her maybe a year to come around and accept the smaller vehicle, but now we're both happy.

I sold my 1959 Impala on Ebay when repeatedly strangers at the Massachusetts Turnpike service center noticed the Tennessee license plates, walked up to me and begged me not to destroy that car by driving it on the MassPike in the winter.

Road salt has caused me a lot of heartache over the years, watching my beautiful cars get destroyed by rust. I tried everything to keep my '85 from rusting and I was successful for a long time, but ultimately failed. I was just starting out so had to drive the car during the first few winters, and later on when I could afford a winter rat I went that route, but the car would develop rust in the barn over the winter.

This I purchased new. I kept it in top condition for a very long time. It needs work now.

But the mpg on the highway has been as high as 30 mpg at 70 mph or so down to 22 in CA using our rotten gasoline. 295 hp has always provided a hell of a lot of power. Comfort is amazing. Ride via computer control is amazing. Sound by Bose is legendary.

I was not a fan of the body design changes after mine or I would have updated. I am thinking of looking for one like mine with low miles and best condition and getting the 2014 Corvette for fun.

That new Corvette is very exciting.

I'm not sure why my truck hasn't gotten any rust/rot. The only thing I can think of is it's almost always in the shade, and I try my best to wash it if it gets salt or any other crap on it.

LOL "in the shade", yeah that's got to be it.

Washing is important and since you have some ground clearance it's relatively easy to get under it and hose out all the crap. My son and I took a trip to Whiteface a week after I got my new Jeep and when I got back home I raised it up on it's highest air spring setting, rolled around underneath it with a hose and cleaned off about 20 pounds of sand and grit.

Some of those cars ran like scalded dogs! My buddy Tony had a purple Cuda that was FAST! His Dad actually worked on it to make it faster for him! Of course his Dad was very big into racing. Later his Dad got him a Buick with the 455 in it , that baby was fast too. Hell, I was pleased with the speed I got by just putting hotter plugs into my Charger.

Trucks now a days if maintained right run forever , I have a 09 Dodge with 150,000 on it and it runs like a champ, I have the Hemi in it and it is fast as hell then I hit a button and I can drive it like a standard Transmission ( for heavy loads or pulling ) and this truck has never let me down , I have pulled hay wagons , Motorcycle trailers and much more and it still is a very comfortable ride

depends on the engine. They put anything from a 273 Cu in 4.5 L v8 up to a 426 cu in 7L v8. Mine was the smallest engine.

I'm not sure why this dealership had these cars around in their inventory when they went out of business in 1996, but what treasures! Auction to be held in Sep.

I think it'd be a hoot to go into the DMV to title and register a 1964 Impala with 10 miles on it.

Back in the day I built a 1978 Monte Carlo, dropped in a 454 Turbo-Jet out of a 1973 Vette. Twin Holley 650 double pumpers and able to do wheel-stands if I wasnt careful...

Cop wanted to race me one night... Said no... he said just for fun... no ticket.. He was in the PINK PANTHER.

If you were on Long Island in the 1980s one cop had a 1970 Pink Panther Charger 440-6Pack.

He didnt realize I had a 454 Hemi in a car that originally only had a 305!!!

End Result... Beat him by 50 yards in the Quarter Mile... Power to weight was off the Charts on the Monte...

Watch this video in the link provided. A son buys and returns his dad Mach 1 mustang that dad sold 24 years ago. It was his dad's first car bought in the early 70's. The dad is tickled pink and the video shows a great moment of giving. Going to send this to my daughter and hope for a surprised (1973 Dodge Charger SE Brougham.) sometime in the future. She may have to wait a bit as she just bought a new home. ;)-Tyr http://mashable.com/2013/07/17/son-finds-dad/

Chicks working on cars, nothing better.

The other day I walked into the back of my friend Kevin's machine shop, he's rebuilding the 390 in my '64 TBird project. His wife was working the media blasting booth, working on the the front cover for my engine. I let out a "whoop" and she grinned and shook her head. I yelled over to Kevin that I hope she appreciated the gem he's got there, she shouted over that he didn't. I gave her a big bear hug and said "if he doesn't appreciate you we'll find someone who does". He just grinned and shook his head.

These little gals we "breeders" are breeding can be quite amazing. I wasn't too sure about mine, but after a year of college she's really matured. She's already told me that she appreciates the discipline we've instilled in her. She sees other young adults doing stupid shit and wants to scold them herself. She's got a job as a nanny this summer watching two boys, ages 8 and 12. She's learned from me, the first word out of her mouth is "no". I told her, isn't it scary when you open your mouth and your parent's voice come out?
