On this anniversary of America's independence, I say thank you to every man and woman who has served in our military. They have risked and, in too many cases, lost so much. This particular story resonated with that theme.

End of a long trip home for soldier killed in VietnamAn Army (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/army/) aviator who was shot down over Vietnam (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/vietnam/) 43 years ago Sunday finally made the long trip home and was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/arlington-national-cemetery/) this week.
Spc. 5 John L. Burgess (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/burgess/), 21, was the chief of a five-man crew when their helicopter was hit and crashed into the thick jungles of South Vietnam on June 30, 1970.
The remains of three crew members were recovered, but Burgess (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/burgess/)‘ could not be found — setting in motion a 20-year effort by the Defense Department (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/united-states-department-of-defense/)’s Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/war-missing-personnel-office/) to find and identify his remains.
That mission ended Tuesday when Burgess (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/burgess/) was buried with full honors at Arlington in a ceremony attended by friends and family.

Happy Fourth to everyone here and Happy Birthday Dad, I still miss you. While I STRONGLY disagree with --HOW-- THAT WAR WAS FOUGHT I NEVER ATTEMPT TO DIMINISH THE SACRIFICES MADE BY OUR GUYS DOING THEIR DUTY WELL. That they did and to hell with any that say otherwise..-Tyr

Tyr. You might be surprised to learn how many of us fully agree with how you Disagreed with Nam, and everything connected to it. But, in all my years since then in uniform, and during those years. I NEVER MET ANY AMERICAN IN UNIFORM WHO WANTED TO BE THERE!

As the old saying goes. "We were just following orders. In those years. The orders of the President of the United States. A man most of us STILL Despise, and sadly...Hate. Named Johnson.
As for our History, and how Vietnam is hopefully remembered by our children, grandchildren, and their grandchildren.
It should be told. WE DIDN'T LOSE THAT WAR.
Politicians in Washington DC, CUT AND RUN, and pretended it was PEACE.

58,000 American names on a Wall, and more than a million others who are still alive, feeling, and living the pain of that war Know.

We Did Not Lose that War. In fact. Millions of us are STILL FIGHTING IT!
