Russian authorities detained 300 Muslims, including 170 foreigners, on Friday after President Vladimir Putin (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/vladimir-putin/) ordered a crackdown on radical Islamists ahead of next year’s Winter Olympics (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/winter-olympics/), Fox News reported.
The Muslims were held at a prayer room in Moscow, and Islamist literature was confiscated, police said, according to Radio Free Europe.
It is the third time this year such a raid has been ordered, targeting Muslim places of worship, Reuters (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/reuters/) reported.
Mr. Putin (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/vladimir-putin/) told a meeting of security force officers on Friday that the “fight against corruption, crime and the insurgency has to be carried out harshly and consistently.”
He said “the situation in the North Caucasus should be kept under particular control,” Radio Free Europe reported.

The problem is now that a new cry is being promoted. A cry that the war on terrorism is all but finished . This comes from the Obama administration at Obama's behest. How it is that so many fail to see his favoritism towards even radical murdering muslims points to a much larger and even more sinister agenda he pursues is beyond me to understand other than general ignorance and lack of interest on the PART of the masses (sheep)... To be noted all these new scandals with Obama has almost stopped the interests in Iran's nuking up program. A mere "unintended side benefit" for those muslim Israel hating scum no doubt. Strange how "things" just pop up and seem to help Obama . Like hurricane(Sandy), tornado(Oklahoma) , etc. Almost like a powerful spiritual force(a dark one) is aiding the guy, huh? edit note : Obama seeks to take away our rights to a trial(and other Constitutional rights) by pursing a policy to allow (drone striking here in USA) but his admin then demands that the captured murdering terrorists be given their day in a civilian court. Speaking from Brussels, where he was attending an international conference on extremist movements, Valls said the move was part of an effort to check “global jihad”.
“Many radical foreign-born preachers will be deported in the coming days,” Valls told reporters, adding that it was important to draw a clear distinction between mainstream Muslims and extremists.
“I am not mistaking this radical Islam for French Islam, but a certain religious environment exists, there are groups that identify themselves as Salafists,” the interior minister said.
“They are attempting to co-opt organisations, school practices, basically, to brainwash a certain number of families,” he added.
Valls warned: “We will expel all these imams, all these foreign-born preachers who target women, make remarks contrary to our values and refer to the need to fight against France.”
Heightened threat level
It was not the first time that the interior minister put hard-line imams on alert. In a speech given at the inauguration of the Grand Mosque of Strasbourg, in northeastern France, Valls said he would not hesitate to deport “those who speak in the name of Islam and represent a threat to public order.”
Unnamed Interior Ministry sources told the AFP news agency that the upcoming deportations involved three people, including an imam from Seine-Saint-Denis, a suburb of the French capital with a large immigrant population.
The cleric in question is said to regularly make homophobic remarks, the source said.
