The New York Times editorial board, which twice endorsed President Obama and has championed many planks of his agenda, on Thursday turned on the president over the government's mass collection of phone data -- saying the administration has "lost all credibility."

The report that the National Security Agency has been collecting phone records from millions of Verizon subscribers appeared to be the last straw.

The editorial board claimed Obama "is proving the truism that the executive will use any power it is given and very likely abuse it."

"Essentially, the administration is saying that without any individual suspicion of wrongdoing, the government is allowed to know who Americans are calling every time they make a phone call, for how long they talk and from where," the Times editorial board wrote.

First Obama loses Jon Stewart, now the NY Times. Can Chris Matthews and Rachael Maddow be far behind?

It's gonna get a whole lot uglier over the next 8 months or so.

Obama still has you, so I'm sure he's not worried.

But will they make the connection between the Executive overreaching its power and government overreaching its power? I'd guess no.

baby steps, fj... baby steps.

The difference is the expectation that they will see their error and suggest a reversal of course rather than just taking smaller, temporary, steps toward increasing government intrusion. But... take hope where we can I suppose.

I've always said that the conservatism isn't going to win on catch phrases, it needs to be educated and imprinted on the populace and voters. This will be an object lesson if done correctly.

I meant baby steps until they make the connection you mentioned.

Editorial has been 'massaged':

http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/06/new-york-times-quietly-changes-published-editorial-to-make-it-less-damning-of-obama/

The New York Times edited its damning editorial (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/07/opinion/president-obamas-dragnet.html?_r=0) condemning the Obama administration for collecting phone call datahttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/06/new-york-times-quietly-changes-published-editorial-to-make-it-less-damning-of-obama/#) from Americans to make it less stinging shortly after the editorial was published online Thursday afternoon.

The editorial originally declared that the Obama “administration has lost all credibility” as a result of the recently revealed news that the National Security Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been secretly collecting call data from American users of Verizon under the authority of the Patriot Act.

But hours later the stinging sentence had been modified to readhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/06/new-york-times-quietly-changes-published-editorial-to-make-it-less-damning-of-obama/#) the Obama “administration has now lost all credibility on this issue.” [Emphasis added]

According to NewsDiffs.com (http://www.newsdiffs.org/diff/245566/245668/www.nytimes.com/2013/06/07/opinion/president-obamas-dragnet.html), a website which tracks changes to onlinehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/06/new-york-times-quietly-changes-published-editorial-to-make-it-less-damning-of-obama/#) articles, at 3:34 p.m. ET the editorial damned the Obama administration generally and by 7:09 p.m. ET it had been edited to damn the Obama administration more narrowly over its collection of call data.

NewsDiffs also showed that several other modifications had been made to the editorial, but none as significant as its change to the originally broad condemnation of the Obama administration.

The new version of the article contains no indication that it has been changed.

Meaningless and all window dressing unless the media goes on a full bore no hold barred campaign for Obama's impeachment. No different than me saying about one of my male friends slapping a woman in my presence, well he shouldn't have done that. Yet I then let it go and not do a thing about it. Which has happened in the past and I can assure you I took swift and punitive actions that stopped it and made damn sure it never happened again.. Sometimes even a friend needs his ass stomped to square him away. Sure he was pissed for a couple months but later came ,apologized and thanked me for not hurting him worse. You see the guy was wrong, was corrected and did make the necessary attitude adjustment. Some people never do. -Tyr

It's gonna get a whole lot uglier over the next 8 months or so. We can only hope but I do not expect any serious action to take place against Obama. The messiah is immune.. -Tyr

Americans should be outraged and on a warpath about all this but the "sheep" still graze with undisturbed contentment and leisure. Such is the power of decades of PC ENFORCEMENT, RACECARD PLAYING PUNISHMENT and DEM/LEFTIST PROPAGANDA...-Tyr
