68 years ago today, on June 6, 1949, George Orwell published his book "1984".
With hindsight, as revelations of IRS harassment of groups for their opposition to the politicis of the party in power, the turning over of thousands of phone records to the government for years, and other such acts still defended by the government's flacks, and unending wars that the administration campaigned on bringing to a close, we can see that Orwell set the title date of his book 29 years too soon, but got most of the rest right.
