Most commentators argue that Islamic terrorism is a fanatical perversion of Islam which deviates from its true teachings. They call for a Western-style modernization of the Muslim world, hoping thereby that radical Islam will be tamed.

This analysis misses the point. The nature of the terrorist threat is unambiguously Islamic and is not so much a deviation from Muslim tradition as an appeal to it.

Regarding classical Islam, the oft-quoted remark that Islam is a religion of peace is false. It is historically illiterate to claim that war is foreign to Islam and it is theologically uninformed to argue that jihad is merely a personal inner struggle with no external military correlate.

On the contrary, Islam is linked from the beginning with the practice of divinely sanctioned warfare and lethal injunctions against apostates and unbelievers. Islam experienced no period of wandering and exclusion; from its inception, Islam formed a unitary state bent on military conquest.

When extremists say they are killing in the name of Islam, they are in part appealing to Islamic traditions of long standing.

 I asked myself how it was possible that those who, like me, sincerely and boldly called for a “moderate Islam,” assuming the responsibility of exposing themselves in the first person in denouncing Islamic extremism and terrorism, ended up being sentenced to death in the name of Islam on the basis of the Quran. I was forced to see that, beyond the contingency of the phenomenon of Islamic extremism and terrorism that has appeared on a global level, the root of evil is inherent in an Islam that is physiologically violent and historically conflictive.

Marcus. Sad, but true. I also believe. American Muslims still fear retribution for their families, both here at home in the U.S.A, as well as in their Home nations..from which they had to leave in search of the Freedoms we have here.

I also believe. A large percentage of American Muslim's honestly do want to live in Peace. But powers stronger than their family ties here. Have their own, secretive, hidden methods of turning terrorism into a tool to Keep them Quiet, if they wish to survive.

The entire World is becoming an Unsafe Place for almost everyone to live.

Even we Americans. Born here. Are now threatened, and being intimidated, blackmailed, and shown how Expressing ourselves honestly. Can become a dangerous thing to do...depending on where you live, and who you THINK your neighbors are.

I find it very troubling, as a Veteran, and citizen. To be concerned, or worried about speaking out...in my own country. Fearing how the radical portion of a mislead, uninformed, selfish population places SELF ahead of their own freedoms, liberties, and rights...because they are IGNORANT, UNINFORMED, and generally STUPID.

To Muslims, the Saudi Arabian peninsula is “holy” ground. It houses two cities sacred to Islamic tradition: Mecca & Medina. When the United States first stood in alliance with other countries to oppose Saddam Hussein’s seizure of Kuwait in the first Gulf War, the government of Saudi Arabia allowed the United States to set up military bases on this “sacred ground” because it feared that Saddam would move from Kuwait into Saudi Arabia. These bases are still in Saudi Arabia, and are one of the main reasons that Osama Bin Laden opposes the United States (Beeman).

How about we start pulling out of there, and then see what happens?

Right. He can and does look like a fool when he dismisses all those 109 verses by claiming they only meant for that time. As if so many examples Allah's words teaching to slay opposition can be dismissed as unnecessary after Mohhammad died. While Islam has obeyed and used those very words to fight the infidels for 1400+ years.-Tyr

This thread is called the ROOTS of islamic terrorism.

The ROOT cause of the issue is bin ladin. A power hungry individual who decided to use a religious institution to further his goal for power.

Now, he's been taken out. Now all we have to do is take what he taught his people and figure out a way through that. To get everyone behind him, he used the fact that we have a base in their "holy land."
And right now, that's all the normal islamic person is pissed about. They're not being fed anything else to hate us, they're just bent out of shape about that.

Hate to have to break this to you but if we never step foot on Saudi land again they will still attack us just the same. Sure they resent us ever stepping on what they view as Holy land but thats not why they want us destroyed. We are Israel's ally and we are the big Satan.
I was studying this all before even 9/11. We are infidels and the Koran orders them to kill or convert us. Just that simple and just that vicious. No stepping around it either.. Aquick look at their history shows they murdered over 200 million people that never stepped foot on any of their land. The ROOT cause of the issue is bin ladin. A power hungry individual who decided to use a religious institution to further his goal for power.

Now, he's been taken out. Now all we have to do is take what he taught his people and figure out a way through that. To get everyone behind him, he used the fact that we have a base in their "holy land."
And right now, that's all the normal islamic person is pissed about. They're not being fed anything else to hate us, they're just bent out of shape about that.

Cadet, your a smart guy and I like you, but you have been misinformed or misled. There is one root cause of the issue. It's called the muslim brotherhood. All the terror groups and individuals come from that one organization. Including bin laden. The setting foot on holy land is nothing but an excuse. It's all about establishing a caliphate and world domination.

Not possible cadet. Terrorism has been around for thousands of years. Giving OBL credit, or falling into that trap of placing all the blame on OBL for terror sounds more like an OBAMA Excuse he has used to convince the Uneducated, that terror no longer exists since OBAMA...SINGLE-HANDEDLY...took out OBL...on his commands.
