Mayor Michael Bloomberg cursed out the chief executive officer of a taxi company who won a court case against the city and pledged a post-mayoral revenge against the entire industry, the CEO and one witness said.

“[I will] destroy your [expletive] industry,” Mr. Bloomberg (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/bloomberg/) said to Taxi Club Management (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/taxi-club-management/) CEO Gene Freidman (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/gene-freidman/), The New York Post reported.

He made the comments during last Thursday’s game at Madison Square Garden (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/madison-square-garden/) during an impromptu meet at the 1879 Club, a witness told The Post. Mr. Friedman (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/friedman/) subsequently confirmed the exchange to The Post and added that Mr. Bloomberg (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/bloomberg/) also said that come January — when his mayoral term wraps — he would destroy “all you [expletive] guys.

“It was like Gene (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/gene-freidman/) had kidnapped his child,” the witness told The Post. “He used the f-word twice.”

The court (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/un-court/) case centered on the mayor’s attempt to replace the city’s cab fleet with hybrid vehicles — a plan called the Taxi of Tomorrow. The judge ruled that the mayor couldn’t order the fleet change because it violated city code.

Mr. Friedman (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/friedman/) reportedly saw Mr. Bloomberg (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/bloomberg/) at the club a day after the court (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/un-court/) ruling, and asked him about the Taxi of Tomorrow plan, The Post said. Mr. Bloomberg (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/bloomberg/) then made the threats, Mr. Friedman (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/friedman/) said, in The Post.

WOW! Where did Taft indicate he was against elections??? I know hw sure doesn't need me to defend him in any way but I sure as hell don't understand how you came up with that conclusion based on ANY post in this thread (so far). Just trying to understand.

I guess you haven't read about the top 100 ways to annoy people. Three similar ones apply hear.

1) Mangle their catchphrases
2) Get their name wrong
3) Twist comments to an irritating conclusion

The idea is to get just...close...enough to getting moved to the cage without tripping the land mine.

"I'll destroy your F** industry."
Win against city Hall in court and this is the reaction you get. city officials vowing to destroy you because they can't have their way with you.
More gov't targeting of groups that piss them off.

Good thing police never do that.

More pothead conservative knee-jerk reactions. Did you happen to miss this part:

Mr. Bloomberg (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/bloomberg/) also said that come January — when his mayoral term wraps — he would destroy “all you [expletive] guys.

So, no. It's not government. It will be a private citizen targeting an industry with is own personal funds. I assume that's OK?

Taft, i stand corrected,

I guess he wasn't angry while he was Mayor trying to run the cab business.
But he will be angry as a private citizens... who has the ear and contacts of the gov't while trying to destroy an industry.

That is better than an elected official doing it but not by much.

Why not BillBob. Most New Yorkers have approved of Bloomingidiotberg for THREE terms now.
They like him because they are as smart as he claims to be. Until....they can no longer afford to stay there.
When you teach people to act like frogs, and let them live in water while you heat it to boiling. They can't tell the difference until they die HAPPY.

A lot of New Yorkers rely on cabs to get around. Without cabs, how will they get a ride to the local convenience store for their 32 ounce 12 ounce Slushy?

Most Manhatten residents use the SUBWAY. Workers from out of town, and tourists use the cabs. Or, they stand around hoping to get a CASH CAB...that no longer operates.
Bloomingidiotberg has told some that he intends to make the STREETS OF NEW YORK...vehicle free eventually. So, the best way to start is with the Cabs.

Destroying the cab industry will hurt the local economy. It's a stupid idea and it proves Adolph Bloomberg has the maturity of a child [and a few un-named posters here].

Cars [edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pyongyang&action=edit&section=16)]There are few cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car) in the city, cars being a symbol of status in the country due to their scarcity as a result of restrictions on import because of international sanctions and domestic regulations.[21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyongyang#cite_note-21) The scarcity of fuel makes the cost of using cars prohibitive. In addition, some roads are in a poor condition.[22] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyongyang#cite_note-googap_201204-22)[23] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyongyang#cite_note-23)

Air Koryo also operates limited scheduled service to a few domestic destinations. The only domestic destinations are Hamhung (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamhung), Wonsan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonsan), Chongjin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chongjin), Hyesan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyesan) and Samjiyon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samjiyon). In April 2008, Air China (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_China) launched a regular service between Beijing and Pyongyang.
Another airport, Mirim Airport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirim_Airport) is located in the east of the city. It appears to have fallen into disuse.

That is to say, there aren't hardly any of either. You've got 6 lanes of road and 3,000,000+ people living in that city yet it practically looks abandoned.

What I was wondering was what Bloomberg had in mind. A man with his position and financial resources is not one to make idle threats.

He is not someone to do foolish things with his own money. He's also generally not one to do foolish things with the taxpayer's money.

He will, however, compel others to do foolish things with their money. Like scrap an entire taxi fleet and replace it with expensive hybrids.

So what are his plans to destroy the taxi industry? This would be a good opportunity to show us how much he really believes in a fleet of hybrid taxis. But that would be a foolish waste of his own money, wouldn't it?

I wish the news media would follow up on this in a year or two and ask what exactly he has in mind. Hold his feet to the fire a bit.
