(CNN) -- The Elvis impersonator suspected of sending ricin-laden letters to President Barack Obama, Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi and a Mississippi judge has been charged with sending a threat to the president, the Department of Justice said Thursday.

Paul Kevin Curtis, 45, of Corinth, Mississippi, has been arrested on a criminal complaint charging him with "knowingly depositing for conveyance in the mail and for delivery from any post office any letter, paper, writing or document containing threats to take the life of or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States."

The federal complaint further charges him with sending "communications addressed to other persons, and containing a threat to injure the person of others."

Curtis was to appear Thursday in U.S. District Court in Oxford, Mississippi.

An affidavit in support of the criminal complaint cites the mailing of envelopes containing typewritten letters and "a suspicious granular substance" to Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi, the president and Sadie Holland, a Justice Court judge in Lee County, Mississippi.

According to the department, all three letters were typed on yellow paper and read as follows:

"No one wanted to listen to me before.

There are still 'Missing Pieces'

Maybe I have your attention now

Even if that means someone must die.

This must stop.

To see a wrong and not expose it,

is to become a silent partner to its continuance

I am KC and I approve this message"

The letter addressed to Wicker and bearing no return address was intercepted by the U.S. Senate Mail Facility in Landover, Maryland, and the FBI was alerted of it Tuesday, the affidavit says.

Three of four field tests conducted on the powder inside the envelope addressed to Wicker tested positive for a protein that later tests determined to be ricin, a lethal toxin, it says. A fourth test proved inconclusive.

Capitol Police learned from Wicker's staff that Curtis had sent similar messages to the senator and that Curtis had posted on his blog in 2010 that he was writing a novel about black-market body parts titled "Missing Pieces," the affidavit says.

The Mississippi man charged with sending poisoned letters to President Barack Obama, a U.S. senator and a state judge was released from jail on Tuesday, federal official said, though the reason for the release wasn't immediately clear.

Jeff Woodfin, chief deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service in Oxford, Miss., said Paul Kevin Curtis has been released from custody. Woodfin said he doesn't know if there were any conditions on the release.

The development comes hours after officials canceled a detention and preliminary hearing without explaining the reason for the change.

His lawyer Christi McCoy, who has been pushing for the charges to be dropped, said in a text message Tuesday that she could only confirm that her client has been released.

"I can tell you he is with his family," McCoy said.

McCoy has said that there is a news conference scheduled for 5 p.m. CDT with federal authorities and defense attorneys.

I guess lack of evidence I should have said. I thought I heard that there were issues with the tests that were run originally. There must have been a lot missing to have let him go I would think.

Yeah, cause if it DID come from him, even if it ended up not being a fatal amount, or fatal strength, I would have thought the mere threat alone would have put him away. I think letting him go means he wasn't the guy after all. Guess I'll have to wait for the announcement!

Ricin Letter-Writing Suspect Released on Bond
Paul Kevin Curtis, suspected of sending ricin-tainted letters to President Obama and other public officials, was released on bond today, a day after a court hearing in which investigators said they found no evidence of the poison in Curtis' home or car.


The U.S. Marshals office in Oxford, Miss., confirmed that Curtis had been released from jail, where he had been kept since last week on formal charges of sending threats through the mail.


Curtis, 45, was arrested at his home in Corinth, Miss., a day after a letter laced with the poison was discovered addressed to Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss. A second letter was intercepted before it reached President Obama and a third letter was mailed to Sadie Holland, a justice of the peace in Lee County, Miss.


Curtis was formally charged last week with sending mail that contained a threat to kill or harm the president and with sending mail containing a threat to injure the president. He pleaded not guilty.

Curtis's attorney, Christi McCoy, argued for his release Monday during the second day of the bond hearing after prosecutors admitted they found no evidence of ricin, the poison found on the letters, in his home or car.


Investigators testified that they found no trace of the poison or the tools they think could have created it in Curtis's home or car, and no Internet searches for how to make the drug on his computer.
FBI agent Brandon Grant believed that the ricin was made by crudely chopping castor beans in a food processor or blender, neither of which were located in Curtis's home, according to ABC News affiliate WTVA-TV.

Nobody seems to be saying it, but this is a cause to worry.

At the time of the Boston bombings, it seemed odd to me that these ricin attacks coincided so closely. I considered it a possibility that the two bombers could have thrown these letters into the mail a day or two ahead of the bombings, but then they arrested Elvis.

Then again, these letters were mailed in Mississippi. So it would have been difficult, but not impossible, for the brothers to move back and forth between Massachusetts and Mississippi in such a short span of time.

However, that would also indicate the brothers had been trained in both bombmaking and ricin development. That would make the independent lone wolf scenario even less likely. They would have had to be connected to some organized terrorist group.

The media seems to be protecting Obama by not linking the Boston attack and the ricin attack, but what are the odds that they're not connected?

This all adds up to an organized action of an organized terrorist group.

To take a page out of Rev's conspiracy book, did the Obama Administration just arrest white American Elvis to quickly dispel talk of an organized attack?

Now is the time to ask: what's the bombing-ricin connection?
