Well, the illegal aliens and their supporters have won. The illegal aliens came here hoping to remain in the United States, and now Congress is readying a plan to let them stay in the United States. Congratulations, you successfully gamed the system.
Republicans, who had been the only hope of enforcing the law, are caving in like beach sand at high tide. Some of them are trying to save face by announcing that "This isn't amnesty because citizenship is not guaranteed", as though the illegal aliens gave two hoots about citizenship. The whole battle has always been over the simple question of whether they would get deported or not. And now it looks like they will get the amnesty they wanted: They won't be deported for breaking U.S. law and coming here or remaining illegally.
Do you Republicans think you're fooling anybody with your prattle about "Look at all the requirements they have to meet, citizenship isn't guaranteed, this isn't really amnesty in the strict sense of the word"? If these people had wanted citizenship, then coming or staying illegally is the LAST thing they would have done, since that would shut off any chance of legality. The idea that they could get citizenship after breaking the laws here, was insane by any rational measure (just not by Democrat measure), and they knew it. They were merely hoping against hope that they could pressure the U.S. Govt into letting them stay in ANY fashion, and not have to go back to their original countries.
And now they've won. The U.S. govt will let them stay, merely making noises about citizenship they didn't care about anyway. While the people who respected our law, obeyed it, applied for legal visas, filled out all the forms, and waited patiently, will be kept out.
You KNOW Democrats must be at work, and Republicans bleating in full retreat, when you find fifteen million lawbreakers being let in while all the people who obeyed the law are kept out.
Nice going, Republicans. Thanks for doing your job so well and upholding the laws you were sworn to uphold. (I won't bother addressing Democrats, whom everyone knew had no intention of upholding the law). You Republicans might have just managed to throw away your chances in the 2016 Presidential election, by trying to act like Democrats. Again.
