Seriously, it's this kind of stupid talk and ignorance that pisses me off. Like the video entry states - is this twit unaware that the shooter can just load another clip? Worst argument EVER:

Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colorado): "I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available." Update comment from her staff:

“The Congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years, and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,” Johnson said. “Quite frankly, this is just another example of opponents of common-sense gun violence prevention trying to manipulate the facts to distract from the critical issue of keeping our children safe and keeping killing machines out of the hands of disturbed individuals. It’s more political gamesmanship that stands in the way of responsible solutions.”

So even her staff doesn’t know what they’re talking about. The congresswoman was clearly misinformed about magazines, and the staff doesn’t know what “clips” are, either, because Congress isn’t trying to ban “clips”. Clips are dunnage which hold bullets in little clumps so they’re easier to load into a magazine, or directly into a rifle that accommodates that method of loading. But clips haven’t been used in modern rifles since World War Two. I haven’t seen any legislation to control clip capacity. Yet.

^^ But this woman spoke of one or either as if they are ammunition. And whatever she referred to, can always have another on standby and another placed in the gun. Like I said long before this crap... You have someone with a clip holding 30 rounds and another with 15 rounds. How long does it take the second guy to drop the clip and put in another 15 clip? 1-2 seconds?

Just a point of order - you mean 'magazine' in your scenario :)

I can drop a 30-rounder, and re-install in less than a couple seconds I bet.

What is the major difference? Can either be reloaded quickly? I'm just confused as to limiting either. It seems to me like either can have a spare ready to immediately reload.

This is listed as a Beretta with 15 round magazines:

I know some can't be changed/swapped, but I see many that can, both mags and clips. Can someone explain to a newb which CAN be swapped at will, and which can't?

Both your pics are magazines. Both can be reloaded - probably would take 30 seconds to load each one. I'm saying I could swap magazines in a couple seconds. :) So - 10 round mag in a hand gun, drop swap and chamber within about 3 seconds.

As to your question:

NO modern arms I know of use 'clips' to hold ammo. Unless it's an internal Clip, maybe, in some long-rifles.

Magazine is a house for ammo; a 'clip' simply holds ammo together until it's loaded into a magazine.

edit - this may help

Someone I know has ammo from Federal; the ammo shipped clipped in 20-round stripper clips; each box had two stripper clips with 10 rounds each (as in first stripper clip moving left to right). The ammo was then loaded into a magazine for firing.

Edit 2: see how clips are used to aid loading?

Anyway - it's the high capacity "magazines" they want to ban, no? And if someone like yourself can reload so quickly, does it really help? I don't think so, but what about from your POV?

I'm not sure what scares me more...

The stupidity of this congresswoman and those like her that write our laws, or the fact that we elect people this stupid... repeatedly.

Use "we" sparingly! LOL While our process as a nation allow people like this to be repeatedly get voted in, it's not MY vote! :slap:

It's RE-TAR-DED to ban a capacity of magazines because it's simply a grab of a modicum of FREEDOM.

Look, if I practiced with my 30.06, I could shoot that sonofabitch fast enough where it wouldn't matter if I had 5 rounds (its max capacity) or 30.

When somebody is shooting at another, a 5-second-to-reload-pause is NOT going to be long enough (thatswhatshesaid) to make a difference.

It's goddamn fucking pig-headed FOOLS re-elected by FOOLS 'doing SOMETHING' simply for the sake of doing SOMETHING. They might as well outlaw taking a shit, because at LEAST that's doing SOMETHING...

I think anyone that is going to vote in place or for us, regarding guns and ammunition, should be forced to take lessons or courses to have knowledge of what they are trying to regulate. Trying to get them banned for 20 years does not equate to experience or knowledge.

And even MORE ignorance, from the dumbass President himself:

At a fundraiser last night in San Francisco, President Barack Obama said that the Newtown killer gunned down 20 children using a "fully automatic weapon." From the official transcript, provided by the White House:

Now, over the next couple of months, we’ve got a couple of issues: gun control. (Applause.) I just came from Denver, where the issue of gun violence is something that has haunted families for way too long, and it is possible for us to create common-sense gun safety measures that respect the traditions of gun ownership in this country and hunters and sportsmen, but also make sure that we don’t have another 20 children in a classroom gunned down by a semiautomatic weapon -- by a fully automatic weapon in that case, sadly.
