My wife is excited as he is the first Jesuit Pope. My Italian buddy said that he has a very strong Italian upbringing and his parents/grandparents were Italian.

Anyway, can someone more in tune with Catholic history explain to me better what a 'Jesuit' is specifically?

Not a Catholic, but I am a fan of the Jesuits, so it is pretty cool.
