View Full Version : WTF is this on my face?

About 3 days ago I suddenly felt a little sore spot under my eye. It feels and looks like a rather large mosquito bite. I suppose it could just be a zit. But it's odd that it appeared out of nowhere, has grown, and now it's a little swelled underneath my eye as well. I think one of those effin little spider bastards might have gotten me! No doubt while I was sleeping too, sneaky little bastards. Anyone think this could be a bite from something?

Nah. I had the unfortunate experience of staying at a place that had them. You would get bit all over if you had a run in with them little critters.
eeewwww, a zit.
Haven't had one in years and years, not to say it couldn't happen again. But the outward swelling, then going along underneath my eye, not your typical signs of a zit. Also, there's like a center point on this, almost like where a stinger or sorts would be. Gonna ask the pharmacist and see what he recommends putting on it.

adult acne. see a dermatologist.
I started fluticasone about a year ago for chronic rhinitis (no allergies either). While the steroid spray keep the passages pretty well open most of the time, one side effect can be adult acne on the cheeks and forehead. So far, Clearasil pads seem to keep it mostly at bay, so try those (daily, don't skip). If that doesn't at least make them less noticeable, see a dermatologist.

Not sure if you guys can see the swelling underneath the eye, due to whatever the red spot is. But I'm not sold on acne, because I woke up this morning and could barely see because underneath my eye was swelled up so much. I suppose anything close enough to the eye like that could cause some swelling though. The pharmacist agreed that he thought it looked like a bite or something, but also suggested I see a doctor/dermatologist. I took some Benadryl last night and it didn't seem to have any effect. I'm just trying not to touch it now and make it dirty, and cleaning it often with hot water and soap.
If I should die, you people are all witnesses that my nightmare came true, and one of those 8 legged bastards got me! :laugh2:

Jim, when I get spider bites I first clean with peroxide to bubble out whatever might be lurking and then I apply rubbing alcohol.
I also do that for any adult acne I might get ... which I do when under stress and/or eat tons of chocolate (which I do when I'm stressed).

Jimnyc. WEBMD seems to lead to a bite of some kind. Keep an eye on the swelling, or the possible infection spreading beneath the pimple like structure. Keep it clean, no oils or greasy ointments. Hydrogen peroxide is good as long as there are no Open cuts, or wounds.
If it doesn't go away in a few days. A doctor should get a visit from you.
Most humans build an immunity to such kinds of bites. But why take any chances. Infection will raise your Temp.
All of what I said is based on my experience with First Aid, and medical training in the military. Nothing special. Just common sense stuff like CPR, wounds, and breaks.

It's a bacterial skin infection-- likely staph (super common) Clean it well and use a hot compress for ten minutes or so; it'll usually burst on its own, but incision and drainage works too. Just keep it clean and avoid touching it. If it continues to worsen after a couple days, seek medical care.
Looks like a bite, though it could also be an abscess.
I worked with a woman who got a similar random spot on her cheek, turned out it was an abscess, and left a (tiny) scar like a hole in her cheek. Def worth getting it checked out.

Some strains of staph kill people; kinda like some strains of the flu kill people. There's a particularly nasty strain, MRSA, that is resistant to most antibiotics. Hope you don't have that; but most people contract that in clinical situations, operation at a hospital etc. it's probably not though, but if it doesn't heal after being drained, see a doctor.

Try to recall that at one point, she actually happily married you. Now you need to fix what changed. And get her to try it also.
Well, I am on Moxilla as you suggested. I see the red underline but it is not self fixing as Word does for me. Mozilla so it does know the right spelling.

It would just be a bacterial infection that got into a skin pore (you can see some larger open ones around your eyes)

5 days since I started this thread and it's now turned black on me. That's generally a sign of death, as in dead skin. The swelling in the eye area has subsided a bit though. If any blackness should spread I would immediately get to a doctor. Hell, still could just be acne, but I personally never had a zit turn black. And it has "growth" to it, but not a fluid feeling, but still a thick feeling like what a mosquito bite feels like for a bit.

Jim. Not trying to scare you but. I had something just like that on my right shoulder several months ago. It only grew slightly larger than what your photo shows. My doctor removed it...made a small incision to remove it. Saved it for the Lab to investigate, and learned it was a Melanoma from too much sun, many years ago. He removed all of it at a second visit, and it is now just a scar.
Sun damage to the skin is common, and it IS easily removed if handled quickly. Not to worry. But I would suggest you visit your Doctor.
What you have probably won't do anything more than get a dark scab, but it can go deeper into your skin. Let the doc remove it.
Seriously. It doesn't look like a Bite now.
Up to you. But today. Anyone, from children to older people like myself...for example John McCain...who also had the same thing on his left cheek a few years ago. IT IS TREATABLE...and should be removed.

I knew it was coming, and I jumped anyway! Was that Australia? I swear that county has the biggest, baddest species of everything.
I have no idea. I lack the balls to watch it a second time.

She's learned very well to block me out. It would be a wasted effort. Not even "in one ear and out the other" - it never even enters the ear. Totally tuned me out.
Robert?
Huh?
I was busy showing you Combat. :coffee:

LOL my friend had something that looked like that on her belly button she asked me to pop it cuz she thought it was just a zit, but it hurt and she didnt want to do it. When I popped it a 100 little flies came gushing out and she started to scream! OMG I thought I would be deaf. We spent the next 2 hours disinfecting her as she cried and screamed and cried... She is still traumatized by it and I still laugh at her.
