I find the timing of the release of this photo curious. I do have a few questions and perhaps some folks here who have a knowledge of guns can asnwer them

What is the puff of smoke coming out of the gun behind the barrel?

What the hell is Obama shooting at? If he is skeet shooting would he not be aiming higher?

Given Obama's history of lying - er embellishing - forgive me if I do not accept this pic as legitimate.

Photo looks to be a staged one to me.
First , he would have to be shooting higher if skeet shooting . Next is one that is more important. Look at how high the butt end of the gun stock is on his shoulder!??? That's WAY too high for any real shooter to be doing IMHO.

As for the aim, well, I shoot skeet quite frequently. I see that a lot from beginners or people unsure of themselves. They wait until the pigeon starts to drop down and then fire. Unfortunately, they do not understand or have not yet learned that the greater the distance, the wider the spread will be, and the less velocity the pellets will have, so they are far less likely to actually hit the pigeon.

Also, his right hand is a little to far out, again indicating a newbie.

Still, a lot of the gun club sites say the porting is usually both sides, not just one. In any case, I think it just shows he's either just sucks, or is a noob trying to look cool.

I have shot a lot and loaded ammo a lot and that should be smokeless powder. He may have fired a blank and it looks to me like the powder is black powder that smokes.

First of all, who shoots skeet with a rifle? It is done with a shotgun. The puff of smoke is from a vent in the top of the barrel of some rifles to control muzzle rise.

Second who shoots skeet by aiming through sights? Sorry, but things happen too fast to aim like that. You sight down the end of the barrel with both eyes open and lead the target.

Third if he was shooting skeet the barrel wouldn't be pointed horizontal. He is clearly shooting at a fixed target.

I am looking at the background. I have a feeling this photo was taken at Hawaii. My beef is the smoke should not show up. I can't recall seeing smoke from modern shotguns.
When I first glanced at the picture, I was wondering if it was Camp David. But I don't think those type of trees are at Camp David.

Anybody think they don't use smokeless powder?

Even in the Army we did not smoke the ranges up that way.

When I see smoke, I automatically think black powder and that certainly smokes a lot.

Unless I missed the post, I don't think anyone said it was a rifle. Of course it's a shotgun. Yes, it's ported (see post 5). He's clearly aiming down the barrel, not though a sight, so not sure what you're on about there either.
