I don't want this to end up as NSFW so just keep it as academic as possible. I am curious as to why it is that some women will harass the men in their lives about watching x rated movies yet think there is nothing wrong with reading racey romance novels that would be so rated if they were presented as filmed. Those Fifty Shades novels seemed to bring such matters to the forefront of consideration but the issue is not a new one. I, for one, to begin the discussion, read many things but include what might be termed women's erotica in my reading list. It stimulates the imagination and the libido and gets one in the mood for some real time activity. From my understanding, the lowly x rated movie is supposed to serve the same purpose for the male. So why do some women disapprove of such? Might it perhaps be the film stars are too hard to identify with and seem like unfair competition? If you are with a permanent partner, and this issue has come up, please discuss if you can. As for V4R and myself, we have watched some together and our opinion is interesting. We both find most of them boring. Too repetitive and no plot or imagination. The amateur ones are somewhat better as the folks in them seem to actually enjoy themselves.

There's actually been quite a lot of research on the topic. Seems if memory serves, men react quickly to visual cues, thus the number of magazines like Playboy, one of the 'tamer' of the genre. Women may oooh and assh, to pics of males, but little evidence that such actually excites, without additional stimuli.
Women however are excited by both risque verbal play, especially related to fantasies. Same with the written word, thus the number of 'romance novels,' which are little more than soft porn.

It seems logical that there is a certain population of females that view the women in porn movies as victims of explotation.

Hey, unless they are being forced to, I've no problem. Assume they got paid what they agreed to.
Problem with porn movies, the writing is usually terrible, so it becomes no more than a barnyard deal to me. Not exactly thrilling.

So why do you think it is that someone hasn't gotten around to filming some of the "romance" novels as real films complete with the racey bits? I am sure they would find a ready audience both among women looking for a new experience and couples wanting to share a little visual foreplay.

Both the woman reading the novels and the man looking at licentious movies are committing adultery.
