And then arrests him, as when he asked him to get his registration, and the guy leaned into his own vehicle to retrieve it, the cop aw his gun - and then claims it was no longer concealed. WTF?

It's Florida. What do you expect? One mistake the arrestee made was communicating he didn't have money. I have lived in Florida. It's amazing what difference there is in the treatment you get when you appear to have money/status. Stupid inbred cop.
Citrus County is right up the road from DIXIE County (on US-19), need I say more?

See, and I thought it was better down there. That's where my Dad is registered and has a concealed carry permit. Then again, he is 76 now, maybe he looks less dangerous? I know that my Dad carries his EVERYWHERE, except for when he picks me up at the airport, then he puts it in his glove box for 30 minutes, then right back on! My eldest brother is the same in Georgia, and he looks like a nutso, but no one bothers you in his area, it's as if everyone EXPECTS the other guy, and homes, have a gun.
But yeah, this cop was an idiot. I hope he loses his job, he shouldn't be threatening to shoot someone who hasn't broken any laws and sure didn't act like he was a threat to anyone.

The officer flat out lied several times... 'displayed a weapon'... 'never told me you had a permit'... 'sticking right out at me'...
I hope this guy sues the police big time. The ONLY thing I would have done differently, would have been to proactively (before I got out) inform the officer I had a conceal/carry permit and was carrying at that moment... just to avoid this kind of thing.
'Shoot you in the fucking back'??? Good thing THAT was on tape too, huh officer.

I don't know Florida law; but in CA, as a condition of the ccw permit, you shall inform a peace officer of such when detained. I recall a similar issue in Ohio(?) where the officer ordered him to be quiet-- here that doesn't seem to be the case. Those I know with permits literally put their hands out the window when stopped to alert the officer and avoid such... Misunderstandings;)

the video is from 2009. Apparently, this happened frequently, and was supposed to stop after a law was passed, according to comments on a YOUTUBE version of the clip...

Florida does not require notifying a police officer that you are lawfully armed. This arrest was in July 2009
No. In 2011 Florida Statute 790.053(1) - Open carrying of weapons was changed to allow "briefly and openly display the firearm to the ordinary sight of another person". Florida's law abiding gun owners were promised the arbitrary arrests and prosecutions would stop. They have not. Florida's gun owners will accept nothing in the future short of full, unlicensed, open carry.
The statute from 2011...

790.053 Open carrying of weapons.—(1) Except as otherwise provided by law and in subsection (2), it is unlawful for any person to openly carry on or about his or her person any firearm or electric weapon or device. It is not a violation of this section for a person licensed to carry a concealed firearm as provided in s. 790.06 (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=0700-0799/0790/Sections/0790.06.html)(1), and who is lawfully carrying a firearm in a concealed manner, to briefly and openly display the firearm to the ordinary sight of another person, unless the firearm is intentionally displayed in an angry or threatening manner, not in necessary self-defense.
(2) A person may openly carry, for purposes of lawful self-defense:(a) A self-defense chemical spray.
(b) A nonlethal stun gun or dart-firing stun gun or other nonlethal electric weapon or device that is designed solely for defensive purposes.
(3) Any person violating this section commits a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=0700-0799/0775/Sections/0775.082.html) or s. 775.083 (http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=0700-0799/0775/Sections/0775.083.html).
This video is probably just one of many reasons this statute was put on the books.
