It's The Dickens Time!

There is more to Dickens than "A Christmas Carol." I was sort of put into a down mood yesterday, when the class I was subbing for was reading the ending of "Great Expectations." Got to say, I was shocked at how much I remembered like 25 years later. As I said, we were reading the dual endings, but the Christmas part of that story is so depressing! The kids were surprised I remembered it too! They agreed.

I don't know why a teacher wouldn't look for an alternative to this, granted one of his best stories, but I just think not a good choice for holiday time. "A Christmas Carol" is too middle school, but there are many to choose from:

I liked 'The Cricket,' but there are other good choices.
