I'm not sure how I feel about this. I grew up going to this shore, this boardwalk and have been on this coaster a million times. I suppose a reminder of it, or even a chunk of it, keeps the memory of what once was around for us. At the same time, it serves as a reminder of the devastation and destruction, and lost lives. I'm not sure it would take being in the water perpetually either, and the waves. And how will they surround it to protect beach goers? IMO, I'd rather they rebuild a "new" coaster, exactly like the old one, on a pier exactly like the old one. I just have mixed emotions about this.

The roller coaster that was swept right-side up into the Atlantic Ocean as Hurricane Sandy slammed the Jersey Shore may not be torn down, according to Seaside Heights Mayor Bill Akers.

The picture of the ride, which looks more like a water slide these days, has become an iconic image of the damage Sandy wreaked up and down the coast just over three weeks ago.

But Mayor Akers, in an exclusive interview with NBC 4 New York, said he is working with the Coast Guard to see if it is stable enough to leave it alone.

If it is, Akers said it would make "a great tourist attraction."

I think it is an eyesore. And I like to look out at the ocean and see nothing but some boats and ships.

They should make it a National Historical Site, and name it "The Obama, Endless Ride to Destruction".
