Having perused many of the threads and posts in the aftermath of Tuesday’s election, I come away with a sense of shock and dismay and, yes…bitterness, on the part of many of those posting here with regards to the results of the election. This shock and dismay is shared by the right wing punditocracy who failed to see this storm coming. Karl Rove, Dick Morris, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and scores of other right wing intelligentsia (tongue firmly in cheek), all gushingly predicted an overwhelming victory for Mitt Romney. But this did not come to pass. Locked away, with their slavish followers, in a hermetically sealed bubbled of self-referencing, self-reinforcing and totally divorced from reality, they could not see the storm clouds on the horizon. The only one who was right was Ann Coulter who, at the CPAC conference in 2011 said, “if we don't run Chris Christie, Romney will be the nominee and we'll lose" (Stemple, 2012). It seems safe to say that many of those posting here suffered the same sense of shock and dismay, but if FOX News, and the rest of the right wing propaganda machine, is so tuned in to the realities of the day, how did they get things so wrong? Precisely because they are not dealing with the facts as they stand but, rather, are dealing with the facts as they wish them to be. One is entitled to their opinion, but not their own set of facts. The facts stand on their own merits.

I have read numerous articles referencing the fact that Romney, the GOP leadership and the right wing pundits were “shell-shocked” by the election results. Firstly, “shell-shock” was what we now know as PTSD. Now I’m not sure what trauma would have precipitated this case of PTSD in either Romney or the GOP or the right wing punditocracy, but it wasn’t the election. They are, however, incredulous at the fact that, despite the hundreds of millions of dollars thrown into the race by American Oligarchs, and efforts by GOP dominated state legislatures to disenfranchise voters (Wilkinson, 2012), they were unable to buy, cheat or steal their way into the White House or a majority in the Senate. The only reason the GOP maintained its majority in the House is because of the gerrymandering perpetrated by these same GOP dominated State legislatures (Bauman, 2012).

And now we come to more facts. President Obama won by a margin of 2.7% by current tally. Yet we have the same fact-free right wing punditocracy claiming that the President does not have a “mandate” even before election night was over. Oh how short their memories. In 2004, George W. Bush won by 2.46%, and all we heard from the right wing media elite was how the President Bush had won a powerful mandate. Please forgive my schadenfreude here, but I just can’t resist. In 2005, “El Rushbo” himself went on a rant about Democrats protesting Bush’s SCOTUS nominees. He said, “(S)hut up! Just shut up! Just go away! Bury yourselves in your rat holes and don't come out until you win an election.” (Mantyla, 2009). President Obama won. Mitt Romney and the whole regressive GOP agenda lost. Shut it.

I have seen your type: The ones that say "those who voted Republican deserved to lose their home to foreclosure". Irrespective of the pundits, the "shell shock" as you put it is the burden of being forced to play economic Survivorman: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorman . Any reasonably intelligent person that wants the best for their fellow citizens can see that draining more and more money from the economy through taxes, borrowing and expanding the money supply is a path to poverty. Romney was no guarantee to improve things, but Obama is a guarantee things will get worse and poorer. Some chance is better than no chance.

I'm not bitter. I have quite a few friends and acquaintances that I see daily and feel no ill will, anger or bitterness towards anyone. What I feel is sad. The facts don't lie, and no matter who was here before and no matter what the alternative was, we still have a floundering economy and it seems as if the country as a whole is swirling around the bowl and ready to go into the pipes at any moment. Whether Obama, or someone else in the future, I just hope we can pick ourselves back up before it does reach that point. Obama's first term clearly shows us he can't do it, but hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised in the 2nd term, but his plan is the same as the 1st and I don't see it happening.

What is it they say about repeating the same process and expecting different results? Whatever it is, pass it along to the White House and maybe they'll take it to heart and try a few different things. We know they have plenty of time since they're ignoring fast and furious and the Benghazi incident.

BP, I am aware this is probably a waste of time since you get "bored" with threads so easily when facts ghet in the way of your ideology

First of all, I see little "bitterness" on my side over the election results. I see sadness and showck that over half of the country feel they are entitled to other peoples money to pay for their "free" stuff.

Obama has divided this nation into Two Americas. The producers and the takers. Right now the takers outnumber the producers

If you look at the groups that went for Obama: single women, Lations, and young people - ALL of them have been crushed by Obama and his economic policies. All three have unemployment rates in double digits. However while they may not have jobs they will get "free" birth control, "free" healthcare, and perhaps a bailout on their student loan debt

Obama also got the usual support from labor and blacks. So what if unemployment in the black commity is higher then any other group? And of course labor was bailed out in the auto industry and the US taxpayer is on the hook for about $25 billion

As the economy limps along gays are delighted they can marry in three states. They may be unemployed and defaulted on their mortgage - but now they are "equal" and Obama did it for them

Obama and the Dems have expanded the number of people who go through life thinking they are entitled to other peoples money and have sold their vote in exchange for some handout paid for by the decreasing number of people still working

In my case I am still working double digit OT as more and more people file bankruptcy, ask for loan modifications, or give up and try to liquidate their property. In almost every case, they mention in their letter that they thought they were entitled (or demand) the "Obama Plan" to save the home they cannot afford to keep.

What defies logic Gabby is that the economy was the #1 issue in this election and yet a majority voted to keep the same people in place that f'd everything up. Obama was good at passing the buck to Pres Bush and like fans of pro wrestling his supporters bought the storyline that was presented

Today all I heard from libs was how they are determined to raise taxes out of fairness. Tell me BP, at what point does someone attain that level of fariness in taxes. When they are handing over 50% of their income to the government? 60%?

Do you really think the triple whammy of tax increases (the current tax rates expire, Obamacre taxes kick in, and the Social Secuirty tax holiday expires) will really spur economic growth?

At work they have made it clear the OT will continue into January 2013. They see no improvment in the US economy BP as more people will lsoe their jobs, default on their mortgage, and I will be there reading their request for the "Obama Plan" or how they are entitled to live in a house they cannot afford

Give it a year. Two at the outside. You'll see Obama aggressively pursue a Socialist agenda that'll prove ever-more ruinous to American jobs, to the economy generally. Obama is typical of Socialist types who hand out money to people to help create a dependency culture .. which is the opposite approach to what's needed, namely, to encourage enterprise, and keep big Government OUT of peoples' lives and businesses.

Romney knew this.

As happened on my side of the Pond .. where Gordon Brown borrowed money on a massive scale, for the pursuit of his Socialist agenda, money not earned, he produced a debt mountain that we'll struggle to fully control for the next decade. We've had to embark on a long-tern austerity approach to the UK economy just to pay our way in the world, day-by-day.

So our Socialists did, so will yours, forever unashamedly so, headed by an Obama ruled by his egotism. It's What They Do.

By the way, Iran may very well finally get the nukes it's trying to acquire, during the next four years. With Obama's much weaker approach to Iran than that intended by Romney .. tell me this. Will an Obama win critically contribute to a holocaust in Israel ?

Just how many lives will Obama's victory cost the world ??

Frankly. I have no idea whether to thank you as Mister Obama, or Mister Reid.

The word BullyPulpit means nothing when the person making the claim to have it. Has lied for four years. And now expects anyone to honestly believe the next four years...of the Insanity: Trying it once and failing. Then trying it the second time, expecting different results.
Cannot, and Will not work. And all of us are going to watch it SELF-DESTRUCT...thanks to the Selfish Americans who were so easily led to ignore the first four years of lies. And settled for a second four years to come.
