tailfins. Sadly true. And even more sad. How so many Americans. Namely those who were so excited about voting for Obama. Have little, if any knowledge about Present Day History. Here in America. About to become a repeat for all of us. Much like Greece is experiencing today.
As long as the checks keep coming in. The TV stays on, the Beer is in the Refrigerator, and the drugs keep everybody HIGHER than a kite. There's nothing to worry about for the Obama voters.
UNTIL......one day. Obama and the Dems drop the BOMB on those Obama voters. Telling them. "TIME TO PAY UP! NO MORE FREE RIDES!"

The result: Greece had to introduce stringent austerity measures in return for two international rescue loan packages worth a total of €240 billion ($313 billion), slashing salaries and pensions and hiking taxes.
The reforms have been painful, and the country faces a sixth year of recession.
Idiots.

"Freefall" is a good description. Not only is Greece falling apart politically and in danger of civil war --- is it really "protest" when thousands of "demonstrators" throw gasoline bombs constantly at police and try over and over to get into the Parliament to kill the representatives? That's not what I call protest. That's an uprising, a rebellion.
But the thing is, it's not obvious that it can get anything but worse over there as everything continues on a downward slide.

Greece's debt is about $280 billion vs USA's $16 trillion. How has the USA not collapsed in similar fashion?

Excellent question: The US has convinced more foreign creditors to buy US debt, there are large amounts of US dollars overseas and the US dollar is used as a standard currency offshore. It cannot go on forever. Why do you like Obama if you see him leading the US to collapse?

You need to compare debt to GDP to normalize. Having said that, the US is in FAR better shape than Greece in tax collection, industry, capital markets, etc.
