Also, last time i heard a kid told that diamonds work better, that's a lie. Flowers are prettier, and they go away. That way she can't look at her jewelry and say "Hmm... I remember that fight..."

About a year after we were married (and I had spent the obligatory 10% of my salary on her engagement ring) my wife and I watched a PBS special on the DeBeers Cartel. It got her so disgusted that she asked me to never buy her another diamond.

She's not big on jewelery anyway, but over the years I bought her good quality cubic zirconium earnings and a tennis bracelet and she really likes them, wears them on special occasions.
