....A Texas high school teacher and mother of three was sentenced today to five years behind bars after a jury found her guilty of having sex with five male students, four of whom she had group sex with while being videotaped.

Brittni Colleps, 28, a former English teacher, was convicted of 16 counts of having improper relationships with students. Since the young men were all 18 at the time, she was not charged with statutory rape.

The jury did not recommend a fine or community supervision.

The case against Colleps has been filled with graphic testimony and cellphone video that allegedly showed Colleps having group sex with the four students in her home during April and May of 2011. The fifth student had a sexual encounter with Colleps on a separate occasion.

Prosecutors said the group sex occurred while her children and husband, an Army specialist, were away.
The law making this a felony is insane. All five men she had sex with were 18 years old or older and all parties involved consented to having sex.

I disagree with that my friend. None of the guys were children, all were 18 or older!
If they want to fire her fine by me but jail time for sex between consenting adults that involved nobody being forced to participate deserves no jail time. Sure, fire her but the jail time was a travesty of justice IMHO.-Tyr

I don't know about abuse of power. As guys we all know what we were like at 18. It doesn't take any "abuse" to get us into the sack with a hot teacher, just consent :p

While this is certainly irresponsible, improper, and unethical I do not thinks it rises to the level of a felony. This teacher most certainly deserves to be fired and will probably never teach again. I would also say some jail time should be server under a misdemeanor.

While we can debate whether 5 years is overboard (I won't disagree) for a gang-bang :eek: at what point do you want to draw the line where the state institutes lower penalties for victims of a certain age? I'd say she clearly abused her position and had access to a steady stream of participants.

Don't know. There's a lot to consider there and I wouldn't want to make across the board changes based on this case alone.
After more consideration I think I agree with you that she abused her position. I guess I had an issue with inclusion of the word "power" in your previous statement. She clearly took advantage of the fact that she held a position giving her access to many virile, young men to satisfy her own sexual fantasies.

When the dust settles on this, the biggest losers will be her children. This will almost certainly destroy her marriage. If the loss of their sense of stability wasn't enough, the kids will be subjected to ridicule for years to come by their male peers unless they can get a fresh start somewhere else in the world.

What a mess. What an incredibly selfish woman. A couple years in jail will seem like a walk in the park after the full ramifications of her actions come to bear.

Maybe not the best word but at a time when so many are decrying the moral decay, and whatnot, of the US something like this shouldn't get the pass that it seems so many are willing to give her. Just reading the comments on the Yahoo news articles are absolutely ridiculous and completely miss the point IMO.
