I think he'd be in major trouble on the f'ing golden deal, if not for his other problems. This report is just sad, he's sick and being used by Democrats, including his wife. Chicago politics, never fail to intrigue:

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.'s camp steps up 'he'll be back' talk--> Aides to ailing U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., D-Chicago, are stepping up efforts to convince a skeptical political world that he is on the mend and plans to stick around in Washington for awhile.

In one move, Rick Bryant, Mr., Jackson's chief of staff, phoned about 25 south suburban mayors to update them on the congressman's condition.

In another, longtime Jackson campaign consultant Kevin Lampe told me that not only is Mr. Jackson running for a new term, but the congressman expects to hit the campaign trail soon.

Mr. Bryant said he made the calls in the past couple of days "at the congressman's request."

"I told them that the congressman was feeling much better and that he was looking for updates on several projects in the district," Mr. Bryant told me in an email. "The congressman also said he expects to be home soon; he is looking forward to getting back to work; and he fully expects to be running for re-election in the fall."

A similar message came from Mr. Lampe.

The congressman "is on the ballot. The campaign is moving forward," Mr. Lampe said. "He is running for re-election."

Mr. Jackson will get out to press the flesh with voters "as soon as he's better," Mr. Lampe added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Jackson remains at Mayo Clinic, (http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20120727/BLOGS08/120729761/rep-jackson-at-mayo-clinic-for-depression-gastrointestinal-issues) which says he is being treated for severe depression.

That disease can be cured, or at least controlled. But life under the microscope in today's political world can be truly brutal.

For what it's worth, if I were Mr. Jackson, I'd quit worrying about the family legacy for a while and really, really ponder whether public life is the right thing for me right now.

Update, 12:45 p.m. — Calls also went out yesterday from the Jackson camp to key Democratic ward and township committeemen, I'm told by multiple sources. The gist of the calls: Mr. Jackson's not going anywhere.

Update, 1:15 p.m. — Mr. Jackson's wife, Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th), now has scheduled an availability with reporters for late this afternoon. Her message, too, is expected to be that the congressman is coming back.
I guess they're trying to make a point.
