I rarely bother clicking on any thread that is addressed to a specific forum member, whether that member is me or someone else.

But I looked in on this one, and for once I'm glad I did. Any speech by Paul Ryan is relevant.

And this is a great one. Not many of us get a chance to dissect one of these Democrat snake-oil plans while the President himself is in the room and listening. Ryan did get the chance, and knocked it out of the park.

The more I listen to this guy, the more I like him.

He is a numbers guy who knows exactly what he's talking about when it comes to economic programs.

But he is more than that, I am coming to realize. He is a Conservative.

And that in the most basic, important way: He realizes that basic freedom (and the responsibility that comes with it) is the route to the greates prosperity anyone has yet found a way to unleash. Not government dependency, not a Nanny State.

Freedom is no more perfect than the people it is applied to. Problems and failures happen. People suffer, and have to try again and again.

But that is true in EVERY system - freedom-based systems, socislism-based systems, dictatorships, you name it.

But only the freedom-based systems are self-correcting enough to achieve the goal of increasing more people's prosperity and safety. Not making them perfect, but increasing them more than any other system.

Ryan understands this to the core.
