Grocery prices headed higher as drought lingers

Shoppers across the country should stand up and take notice of the Midwestern drought that has already hurt supplies of corn and soybeans.
The drought will lead to higher prices (http://www.debatepolicy.com/#) when you head to the supermarket for everything from milk to meat. How high will depend on what happens with rain and high temperatures in the Corn Belt in the next few weeks.

“We’re at the cusp of seeing how severely this is going to impact consumer prices,” said Darrel Good, professor emeritus of agricultural and consumer economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The drought and heat, he continued, “has already done permanent damage to the crops but our concern is the outlook for the weather is not very good and we’re expecting a further deterioration.”

Without a doubt. Corn crops are mostly failed. While we don't necessarily eat corn all the time, at least I don't, it's in much of the foods you eat. Corn starch, syrup, etc. It's primary food for most livestock.

Doesnt help that we fuel our cars with corn thanks to government interference and insane policy. We must not drill to get our own oil here so instead we must convert a food crop(corn) into fuel for vehicles! Just imagine that line being spouted 40/50 years ago ! I think our nation's enemies knew they had us as soon as we fell for such utter rubbish.-Tyr

Don't get me started on ethanol! I've been railing on that for years. Once again we'll see starvation in countries that rely on US surplus, which has been dwindling due to corn for oil!

If we actually survive as a nation someday that reckoning will come.
In fact , if obama gets another term he is likely to deliberately force that reckoning himself!
