Meanwhile, some Republicans say they're ready to embrace ending tax breaks in order to use the money to head off looming defense cuts, according to the Hill newspaper.

This is clearly politically motivated by Republicans and Reid is not willing to have that fight...YET.
Never fight your enemy on the battlefield of his choosing.

We need to get a little closer to the election I think before this gets going because it carries a lot of rhetorical weight. The Democrats will accuse Republicans of not wanting to give the middle class a tax break and the Republicans will accuse the Democrats of wanting to raise taxes.

Agreed. One the one hand I enjoy the sport and drama of Politics, on the other I get pissed at political gamesmanship which serves in the majority to safeguard and/or further their own careers while their constituents sit on the sidelines waiting for them to do what they were elected to do.

Obama began to fade Politically when he first became a Senator for Ill. His political, Socialist, Marxist career in politics has been Fading with Every Lie he tells on a daily basis.
The Democrats who CLAIM to support Obama, only do so because they fear being Labeled...just as they so easily label Republicans who disagree with Obama.
The worst thing any Democrat can do is DISAGREE with their chosen, Pretender in Chief if they intend to remain in Politics for more than One term.
Those Dems who voted to REPEAL Obamacare, all have really hard, competitive fights in the next election. So. Rather than continue to Lie like Obama. They choose to remember how their constituents Will Punish them for Siding with Obama.

Seems to me Obama and Reid are playing the old game of good cop/bad cop. Neither wants to step up to the plate, make a decision, and do their job.
