DP had a thread about finding where you are on The Political Compass a while back, but I don't remember anyone answering it.
The site has revamped its questions for the 2012 election cycle and to make it more relevant for non-Americans. I would love to see where DP members really stand on the political spectrum.
The intro and quiz are here:
http://www.politicalcompass.org/
My score on the questions is listed here:

The positions of some famous public figures of the past are listed here:

About 189 pounds, soaking wet. That's the only scale you need to know about here.
Otherwise, Right, Libertarian.

Those are designed to always show you to be a Libertarian unless you just outright lie on all the questions. It's a promotional deal for the Libertarian party.

It's kind of curious. I've always identified more to the right than these results show, and previous versions of this test, (with different question sets) has always put me about one tick right and one tick North of the x-y axis.

the presidential candidates
Ron Pauls not there but on another chart it showed him just a bit lower and to the left of Gary Johnson
http://www.politicalcompass.org/charts/us2012.php
Look at the difference in Romney and Obama.
I really don't think Romney is going to make HUGE changes or save the country or pull it back from the brink with his positions so close to Obama's.
Looks like I'll have to "waste" my vote on someone i think will at least try to make a difference, rather than vote for more of the same. which seems to me like really wasting my vote.

Can you not see how easily it can be manipulated?
You don't find it in the least bit dishonest and not a little bit pretentious that the test essentially says if you are not a Libertarian you are automatically "Authoritarian?"
You're REALLY going to base your vote on something this fraudulent and stupid?

As far as i can see Obama and Romany are very similar
How are they the Similar?
Obama's very similar to Romney on the economy, More Bailouts More Easing.
Obama's very similar to Romney on the the War in Afghanistan, more troops get out later.
Obama's very similar to Romney on the TSA, it is expanding from the airports to bus stations and the highways.
Obama's very similar to Romney on attacking others countries without congressional consent- Lybia,
Obama's very similar to Romney on Drone striking other countries -Pakistan, Yeman, Somolia more?
Obama's very similar to Romney in that he says the Prez can Kill ANYONE including citizens.
Obama's very similar to Romney in that he says he can put ANYONE including citizen in jail indefinitely.
Obama's very similar to Romney in that he claims he believes in privacy but supports Spying on Citizens anytime anywhere without warrants and Drones in the U.S..
Obama's very similar toRomney in that he doesn't REALLY want Gitmo closed.
Concerning health care: Government run/controlled health care is Socialist. period. Ronemy wants just about all the the current plan it seems. and did the same in Mass. However the Health care law is more of a Boon for Big Pharma. Not the people. Less choice less docs, more Big Pharma lead medicine.
Obama's very similar to Romney in that they'll both Cover for the Bush era crimes and Romney will probably overlook fast and furious crimes.
Obama's Almost just like Romney on NAFTA
Obama's Almost just like Romney on Lobbyist
Obama's almost just like Romney on his main big financial backers Goldman Sack, Jp Morgan Bank of America etc..
Obama's Almost just like Romney on Transparency
Obama's is very similar to Romney concerning the U.N.
Obama's is very similar to Romney concerning Global -so called man made- warming
Obama's better than Romney on Iraq, i can give him some props is on the reduction in IRAQ.
The main differences?
Romney's different than Obama in that Obama is violently pro abortion
Romney's different than Obama in that Obama openly supports Same sex marriage.
Romney's different than Obama in that Obama supports loose immigration enforcement.
If I'm wrong on the above let me know please.

Is this the same old political "test" that tells you you can be liberal and favor freedom?
The same "test" that says you can be "Libertarian" and on the left at the same time?
The same "test" that says you can favor "authoritarianism" and be conservative?
Garbage in, garbage out.
This "test" has been around for a very long time. Every year or so, it seems to resurface, as ignorant people who haven't seen it before, "Discover" it, believe it, and go around singing its praises before they start finding out how self-contradictory and silly it is. Then it gets debunked (again), and fades into the backwaters (again), until a new crop of naive kids discover it to their wonderment.
Sounds like we're on, what, repetition no. 12 of this discover-celebrate-disillusionment cycle now?

So, who believes you can be Libertarian and on the left at the same time? Show of hands?
Hand
the chart shows where a person is relative to all the positions named
yes a lefty can be libertarian on some issues and so can a neo con republican.
yes a lefty can be Authoritarian on some issues and so can a neo con republican.
For instance there are plenty on the left that don't like the gov't spying on phones etc etc. that's a libertarian position.
While they may at the same time want to tell you not to smoke every again or control every move corporation which is more Authoritarian.
Similar for neocon republicans, plenty like the idea of a free market which is more of a libertarian stance. But have no problem with the gov't breaking into people homes without warrents, spying and throwing people in jail without trials, which is more Authoritarian.

very Nice break down of types of libertarian views and how they touch various forms of conservationism and liberalism.

Far right , smaller Federal government Constitutionalist and pro military Patriot that places citizens rights over the that of the big , powermad Federal government that has reached the point that it attacks law abiding citizens as a matter of principle on a daily basis! Even specificly singles out individual private citizens to attack as well!
I make no bones about my intense hatred for Marxists, Communists, Socialists, and other assorted lousy traitors.
If my reply is felt to be not adequate enough send me a pm here and I'll say it in a more graphic way/ manner! -Tyr

Mine came out as ..
Economic Left/Right: 6.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.18
I've taken one of these before (though I think its questions were more geared to a British participant). That other test had me categorised as virtually identical to Margaret Thatcher. This one puts me in similar territory, though apparently a little more 'libertarian'.
