View Full Version : Obamacare adds 3.8% tax on home sales?!?

Got this email today .... did you know about this? Is it true? Do we really have to pay 3.8% tax to the Federal Government for every $100,000? I'm hoping this isn't so!

When did your home become part of your health care? Your vote counts big time in 2012. Make sure you and all your friends and family clean out the white house and the greedy worthless ‘dead beats’ in Congress. It is critical.

I thought you might find this interesting, -- maybe even SICKENING!

The National Association of Realtors is all over this and working to get it repealed before it takes effect. But, I am very pleased we aren't the only ones who know about this ploy to steal billions from unsuspecting homeowners. How many realtors do you think will vote Democratic in 2012?

Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8% sales tax on it? That's $3,800 on a $100,000 home, etc. When did this happen? It's in the health care bill, -- and it goes into effect in 2013. Why 2013? Could it be so that it doesn't come to light until after the 2012 elections?

So, this is 'change you can believe in?’ Under the new health care bill all real estate transactions will be subject to a 3.8% sales tax. If you sell a $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax. This bill is set to screw the retiring generation who often downsize their homes. Does this make your November, 2012 vote more important?

Oh, you weren't aware that this was in the ObamaCare bill? Guess what; you aren't alone! There are more than a few members of Congress that weren't aware of it either.

You can check this out for yourself at:

http://www.gop.gov/blog/10/04/08/obamacare-flatlines-obamacare-taxes-home

From the website:

“I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes,”
President Obama, September 12, 2008

Beginning January 1, 2013, ObamaCare imposes a 3.8% Medicare tax on unearned income of “high-income” taxpayers which could apply to proceeds from the sale of single family homes, townhouses, co-ops, condominiums, and even rental income, depending on your individual circumstances and any capital gains tax exclusions. Importantly, the “high income” thresholds are not indexed for inflation so will reach increasing numbers of middle-class taxpayers over time.

In February 2010, 5.02 million homes were sold, according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR). On any given day, the sale of a house, townhome, condominium, co-op, or income from a rental property could slam middle-income families with a new tax they can’t afford.

This new ObamaCare tax is the first time the government will apply a 3.8 percent tax on unearned income. This new tax on home sales and unearned income and other Medicare taxes raise taxes more than $210 billion to pay for ObamaCare. The National Association of Realtors called this new Medicare tax on unearned income “destructive” and “ill-advised” and warned it would hurt job creation.

So this new tax isn't likely to hit any middle-class home sellers, but you can bet the farm it will add 3.8% to the price of every house that middle-class home buyers encounter.

How will it not affect middle class home-sellers?

Obviously it would.I see this a means of govt recouping the bailouts on home forclosures/bankruptcies.

So, once again, producers are being penalized for those who didn't.

It's shitty, no doubt. Garbage in... Garbage out. It's really the buyers who pay; not the producers. What makes this an odd move is there's a glut of homes still. So it'll slow listings movement, causing home sales prices to decrease....it's circular, really. Leading me to wonder if this a move to force renegotiations with existing owners.

From the website:

There were about 20 new taxes (or are they fees/penalties) in Obamacare and most of them will hit middle class folks. That is why Obama and his re-election team in the liberal media do not want to talk about it

http://www.rogerhedgecock.com/story/18919206/list-of-obamacares-new-taxes

Of course few reporters are asking Obama about these taxes - that would be acting to much like a journalist

If what the CPA in the video said is accurate, the tax doesn't hit couples with incomes less than $500K, and if it's their primary residence, a couple can profit on the sale of their house up to $500K tax free under an exemption.

All you have to do is look it up to see that it will effect an estimeated 3% of sales and will not be added to any home sale bought by us.

Yep, and that fact pretty much ended the conversation the OP started, so time to try a new tactic I guess.

The new taxes are unrelated to the OP which was talking about ONE specific tax.

On the whole, anyone dumb enough to believe that Obama wasn't going to raise taxes deserves what they are getting. EVERY politician raises taxes. That's just the pathetic truth of it.

Not in that single particular post , no I didn't. But there are SEVERAL posts in this thread that don't discuss the topic at all, so what?

I certainly DID discuss it in another post, and will continue to do so as I feel the desire to.

As for the OP, it HAS been shown that that tax will affect essentially no one. As to other taxes, once again, no one could honestly have believed Obama wasn't going to raise taxes.

So the conclusion the Democrats want us to draw is clear:

We should not object to this kind of theft... as long as WE are not presently the ones being stolen from.

Got it.

What is the difference if a guy holds me up and takes $100.00 from me - and the crook sees a man out in cold and he takes the $100 and buys him a coat, a meal, and room for the night

VS

the government taking the $100 from me and uses the money for the same thing

One uses a gun to take the money while the other takes it via the whim of the government

I do not understand why anyone has to pay additional taxes above and beyond capital gains? This is still confusing me as to why an additional tax on income earned.

I do not understand why anyone has to pay additional taxes above and beyond capital gains? This is still confusing me as to why an additional tax on income earned.

The reason is simple SL

Obama is running out money and he refuses to cut spending. Besides, Liberals think all money belongs to the government and they can spend the money you earn much more efficiently and on more worthwile things then you could

The other think I notice in nearly all tax debate is when R's want to cut taxes, the left whines how government cannot "afford" the tax cut. As if tax cuts equal spending

Hoiwever libs always bellow how people can easily "afford" every tax increase they demand

Are you serious? We have been told over and over by Obama's re-election team that Obamacare is Obama's greatest achievement in his first term. Obama has done something that Presidents since FDR wanted to do

We were told how Obamacare would save us money, make health care cheaper, and reduce the deficit

All of which have been proven to be lies

So I understand why Obama does not want to talk about Obamacare just as he does not want to talk about the economy

He would rather talk about Mitt's Swiss bank account and investments
