Who Controls the Suez Canal?

Who controls the Suez Canal? Answer= Egypt
Who controls Egypt? Answer = currently its military
Who will soon control both? Answer= soon it will be The Muslim Brotherhood ! or a Junta of their making..

Why does this matter to Americans? Answer= the usual reply= Oil

Which brings us to this question, why does obama try to limit our home exploration and production of oil?

A very serious National Security issue and yet obama heads in the wrong direction!

Producing more oil domestically would not mean more oil would be available for domestic use.
The U.S. currently exports more oil than it uses. In each past case where domestic drilling has expanded, Big Oil has used to occasion to step up its oil exports.
The reason: China and Japan pay three times as much for oil as Big Oil would get if it kept the product for domestic use. Hence our dependence on foreign oil.

I think you are far too quick to say that the Muslim Brotherhood will control the military......this is Egypt, not the US......it would be like saying soon the Republicans will control the Democrats......

Suez Canal
The Suez Canal is located in Egypt, and connects the Red Sea and Gulf of Suez with the Mediterranean Sea, spanning 120 miles. Year-to-date through November of 2010, petroleum (both crude oil and refined products) as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG) accounted for 13 and 11 percent of Suez cargos, measured by cargo tonnage, respectively. Total petroleum transit volume was close to 2 million bbl/d, or just below five percent of seaborne oil trade in 2010.

Almost 16,500 ships transited the Suez Canal from January through November of 2010, of which about 20 percent were petroleum tankers and 5 percent were LNG tankers. With only 1,000 feet at its narrowest point, the Canal is unable to handle the VLCC (Very Large Crude Carriers) and ULCC (Ultra Large Crude Carriers) class crude oil tankers. The Suez Canal Authority is continuing enhancement and enlargement projects on the canal, and extended the depth to 66 ft in 2010 to allow over 60 percent of all tankers to use the Canal.

Seems as if closing the Suez would have a negligible effect on the shipping of oil.

EIA is not able to track how much domestically produced crude oil and other liquids are exported in the form of refined products. The small quantity of crude oil produced in the U.S. that is exported, nearly all to Canada, may actually be returned to the U.S. as refined products.

Things are moving fast in Egypt right now. A lot happening there and I expect soon that their military will get in line too.-Tyr
