Are these numbers accurate? And if so, besides maybe former Presidents (and maybe even them too) - WHY are ANY of them getting money for life? Add them all up and that's a lot of money! I am a firm believer that the majority of these positions should be volunteer and Washington, or most of it, need only be part time.

retired politicians should get NOTHING. I mean seriously, they have it made once they get out of office.

The reality is. As politicians. Not one of them would ever vote against their earning possibilities. Much like No Politician would Honestly Vote for Term Limits.
Besides. Most Americans have no idea. Members of congress get ANNUAL PAY RAISES, as long as Not One of them brings a vote to the floor to change, or stop the raises.
It's a designed AUTOMATIC raise.
