Actually, I'm a 40 something (41 to be exact) year old retired MILITARY POLICE. Indeed, they never let us wear short pants on duty.

Depends heavily on the dude. If he's any good as a cop, he'll get people to take him seriously regardless of whether he wears shorts on a warm summer day. Except for maybe a few shallow, arrogant, self-congratulating dweebs who don't realize who they're dealing with... but those usually don't last long.
