It worked fine in the mid 19th-century, so maybe it's time we tried it again:


Annex Mexico.

Without a border, the illegals automatically disappear. Every Mexican becomes a US citizen; and every American is free to travel in, live in, and work in Mexico for as long as they want.

More land and natural resources means a bigger tax base, and even the shoddy labor policies of the US government will help the former Mexicans make a better living wherever they live. Everyone will be happy, except for a handful of corrupt Mexican politicians.

Where have you been? ive been advocating that for years.

We significantly shorten the southern border. Making it much more managable. Open up investment opportunities. etc.

The only thing i see a problem with is the transition to citizenship and voting. We would have to assimiliate the population into our system before granting citizenship and voting rights because otherwise it would simply turn the United States into Mexico because they would simply change the laws to reflect Mexico. etc.

Besides which, any change that wasn't compatible with the US Constitution would have to be done by amending it.

I would suggest and English language amendment prior to it happening though. makes things lots more complicated otherwise.

Not sure about that last part: if the borders of all the existing Mexican states were preserved, and the number of congressional seats determined in the usual way, we gringos would still have enough influence over the government in the beginning. Besides which, any change that wasn't compatible with the US Constitution would have to be done by amending it.
