Pelosi’s Expert Was Also Business Partner Former Speaker Brought Family Friend to the Hill

By Paul Singer (http://www.rollcall.com/reporters/23.html)
Dec. 19, 2011, Midnight

In May 2010, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (http://www.rollcall.com/members/35.html) took to a podium in the Capitol to introduce a half-dozen economic experts she had convened for a meeting on how to jump-start the economy. The group had met for several hours with top Democratic leaders, and Pelosi invited them to speak publicly on their perspectives on economic growth.

What Pelosi did not mention is that one of the men in the group was her son's boss and a partner with her husband in more than a half-dozen investments, including one that generated more than $100,000 in income for the Speaker's family last year.

It was the fourth time since 2007 that Pelosi had invited San Francisco investment banker William Hambrecht to be part of an economic policy forum on the Hill and the third time she appeared at a podium with him to speak to reporters. At none of those events did the then-Speaker reveal her financial ties to Hambrecht, and House rules did not require her to do so.

At a time when the connection between a Member of Congress' personal finances and public role has been spotlighted by the proposed STOCK Act — which would prohibit lawmakers from trading on legislative knowledge — the case of Pelosi and her family's investment adviser is a reminder of how few rules exist to govern these relationships...

What's really sick are those that see it as a partisan issue and not an institutional one:

Issa: Four more Friends of Angelo in Congress posted at 10:05 am on December 19, 2011 by Ed Morrissey

With Congress about to wrap up its year-end business and head home for the holidays, there probably won’t be too much news made on Capitol Hill until next month. Why not conduct a whodunit instead? House Oversight chair Rep. Darrell Issa resurrected the Countrywide Financial influence-peddling scandal by informing the Ethics Committee that four current members received sweetheart deals on loans through the infamous Friends of Angelo program (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1211/70629.html) that sent former Senator Chris Dodd into retirement … perhaps to the Irish mansion he now owns:

Four current members of Congress took part in the controversial VIP program run by Countrywide Financial, the now defunct mortgage lender, according to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Issa made the disclosure in a letter he sent Friday to Reps. Jo Bonner (R-Ala.) and Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.), the chairman and ranking member of the House Ethics Committee.
Congress has been rocked by revelations of insider trading on stocks and commodities in recent weeks. Consider this the old-fashioned kind of insider trading, where Representatives and Senators receive unique deals from regulated industries as a means of increasing the firm’s political influence through increasing the bank accounts of politicians. House ethics rules prohibit any such transactions that give members a better deal than the public gets offered, but that only counts if the Ethics Committee decides to do anything about it. In the Senate, the full reaction of their ethics panel was that Dodd and Kent Conrad “should have exercised more vigilance.” Ow, Mommy, that hurts!

I'll never ever understand why anyone would vote for her. She's an infantile hack at best, and a political crook at worst.

Sadly, I think that applies to most in Congress; she is one of the worst and that is pure product of the area she represents. YOu ever been too San Francisco? If you have, you know that she is one of them.
